Nasi Lemak
I used to enjoy eating here but this visit was quite frustrating. Slow service, language barrier and undersized portions. Nevertheless, the Tauhu Goreng ($5+) was still stunning. Bouncy soft tofu fried till golden brown, the outer layers were so crispy, you could literally hear it crackle apart as you push your fork down. Also loved the rojak sauce that adds a fruity slant to the dish, cutting through the oil from the deep frying. So yes, when asked if I would come back despite all the frustrating service, yes, but only for this tauhu goreng. Hjh Maimunah is located at Jalan Pisang. Nearest train station being Bugis MRT.
Finally queued for the right Nasi Lemak store in Changi V! True to its legacy, Mizzy Corner serves up a truly sedap plate of Nasi Lemak! I loved the subtle coconut fragrance in the rice and it's perfect combination with the sweet belachan chilli sauce. The chicken wing is well-fried with a tasty batter. Love this!
Punggol Nasi Lemak quality at half the price! That's the first thing that came to mind when I tried the Nasi Lemak here. Located at the corner, along the same row as the famous Bai Nian YTF, this Nasi Lemak store serves up a wicked plate. The curry vegetables here are so soft, so juicy and so tasty, it was the perfect complement to the Nasi Lemak (rice). Slap on a portion of their spicy sweet chilli sauce and you've got for yourself a satisfying mouthful of sweet, savory and spicy. AND THE CHICKEN WING HERE IS QUITE PHENOMENAL. Not too sure what batter they use (please tell me if you know!), but it's crispy, light and most importantly, it locks in the juiciness of the wing. I could literally hear the batter get crushed inside my mouth then feel the oily goodness seeping out. Okay, this is my really feeble attempt to describe how good this chicken wing is. To know how good it really is, how about you just try it for yourself?
