If you’re afraid of the small morsels of food that fancy schmancy places usually serve, then this huge half chicken is probably your best bet for the most value for money item on the a la carte lunch menu—it won’t leave you hungry. The skin is crisped golden while the flesh stays tender and moist, served with wild mushrooms, a smooth, creamy Yukon potato purée, and a rich chicken jus which I promptly licked clean. @spagosingapore

I love the complexity of this saucy broth, which strikes a delicate balance between salty, spicy and sour from the green peppers and green Sichuan peppercorns, finishing with that satisfying tinge of numbness on the lips that the famed Chinese cuisine is known for. You’ll also be glad to know they no longer charge 50 cents a packet of tissue. @tanyu_sg

The beef patty is cooked nicely, though it could do with more seasoning—I shouldn’t need to add mustard for flavour. It’s also quite pricey, unless you consider $19.80 for a bacon cheeseburger cheap. Their fries here ($5.50) are an enhanced version of McDonald’s, having a crispier exterior and fluffier interior. If you’re thirsty, quench your thirst with a $4 soda to complete your $30 gourmet fast food experience. But there’s no 2 hour queue here, and justifiably so. @burgerjointsg

The Pistachio is probably the best I’ve had; natural tasting yet rich, it’s like you’re eating the actual nut. Their 75% Cuor di Cacao is also deeply sinful, while their Stracciatella is a lovely combination of creamy milk and chocolate shards. The Cremino and Gianduja are a must too if you love hazelnuts, but sadly the cup can only fit 3 flavours ($12). @venchi.singapore

It carries a nice charred aroma, with the garlic and lard keeping the reduced stock flavourful. But perhaps they should also offer a version with regular prawns, so the price tag won’t be jacked up. @dashijiabigprawnmee

Applewood-smoked bacon good. Cherry pepper relish good. But I’d pick the shack stack over the smoke shack. ($14.40) @shakeshacksg
