What sets them apart is the lime frosting. So there's a separate lime layer underneath the sugar frosting. The cake was crumbly and rather dense, and very very messy to eat because it just disintegrates when you poke your fork through it. Probably don't get it to share, and put it in a bowl then eat with spoon.
PSA there's 2 choices of heat, extra spicy and regular. For regular folks, we specified less spicy, they obliged, and there's still some heat. So take from it what you will
To keep it 100%, the taste of the gravy was quite cacophonic. It's certainly not bad, but it's not v good either. However, the oxtail was cooked damn well. Rarely does an oxtail outside get my mom's approval. It's a 50-50, should order for the oxtail, and maybe just to try devil curry once.
Oh and the bacon bones were nice too. It's called bacon bones but there's q a bit of meat actually
Apologies for the bad pic
The lady finger was coated in quite a nice spiced sauce. I quite liked it, and find the price reasonable too. Worth a try!
Idk how wagyu is this wagyu but I gotta say it is pretty damn tender. On the contrary, this was actl q sour, but not in a bad way. The gravy is still good, just maybe not as punchy as the Babi assam
Despite the name, it really wasn't sour at all. V deep savoury gravy w pork belly. Again, really easy to love and goes so well with rice. The kicker: the funky smell is pretty strong, though there's no funky taste at all. Otherwise it's a must order
Well cooked prawns in a fragrant, lemak gravy. What's not to like about it?
Overall impression:
Honestly I felt everything was kinda pricey. But there's a reason why they're open for so many years. Food is really good, not mind-blowing but the v homely kind, executed w restaurant flair. Very very reasonable prices using beyond. Get even number of ppl and come check this place out! Never had Eurasian cuisine until now and it is familiar enough to easily acceptable, but different enough such that u don't feel you're just eating solid Malay food
Served w 2 dips, sambal belachan(rather watery and mild, quite sour) as well as a tangy dip which was flavourful. Later found it it's pickled cod. Which was weird cos it was almost like tomato paste without the veggie taste
