Buffets

For all the hungry people. Bottonless pit.

Just went for another buffet recently, and it was quite an affordable and valuable one that makes you want to come back just to eat a few dishes again.

The buffet was Bangkok Jam’s 19th Anniversary Buffet, available only at the Great World outlet. Initially, it was offered for weekday dinner from 5 pm to 8 pm, but due to strong demand they introduced weekday lunch too from 11.30 am to 3 pm. How long will it last? Nobody knows, as their website and social media do not state.

To celebrate 19 years, they serve 19 choices of food, with prices starting from $19.90++. I recommend topping up $7 for the premium buffet, as it is worth it. You get premium dishes, unlimited moo ping, a selected drink, and free‑flow classic Thai dessert.
Adult: From $19.90++ / Premium: $26.90++
Child (5–10 years): From $15.90++

There is an 80‑minute time limit, which feels short, but it can still make you full unless you are a big eater. Some dishes are ordered via QR code and cooked upon request, while others are displayed at the mini buffet corner for self‑service.

Dishes that I think is good
- Warm Spicy Glass Noodle Salad with Seafood: Refreshingly savoury, umami and spicy. A dish worth spamming to open up your palate.
- Steamed Seabass with Chilli & Lime: A classic done right. Smooth, flaky fillet with spot‑on flavour. No bones, so you can eat happily without fuss. Thoughtful touch.
- Moo Ping: OMG, this was so good! Grilled to perfection, tender, juicy, succulent, with fatty bits and a sweet savoury glaze. One of the best moo ping I’ve had in a while.
- Clear Tom Yum Seafood Soup with Thai Herbs & Mushrooms: Aromatic, heaty, savoury and comforting. Not as fiery as authentic Thai spice, but adjusted for local taste. Still a good soup.
- Signature Phad Thai: Stir‑fried nicely, not lumpy despite sitting in the tray. Flavour was basic but spot on. Condiments available to adjust to your palate.
- Fried Food: Handmade crispy spring rolls, crispy mushrooms and prawn crackers. Not usually my favourite, but they did an excellent job. Still crispy and crunchy even after sitting out. Authentic Thai sauces and condiments enhance the flavour.
- Red Ruby: Could almost substitute as a drink. Coconut milk with crunchy water chestnut and crushed ice gave a sweet, milky, creamy experience. Premium buffet includes one drink, but you can add $5.90++ for unlimited selected drinks.

Just went for a lunch buffet at @cosmorestaurantsg yesterday while they are running a promo. The deal is a 45‑minute Express Lunch Buffet at $9.90++, ending this Friday (31 July 2026). After that, the buffet returns to its original $15.90++ pricing, available Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Reservations are highly recommended as it gets crowded quickly. Lunch runs from 12pm to 2.30pm.

The Buffet Experience
There are definite highlights, but also areas that need improvement.

What’s Good
- The price is excellent during the promo, and the food feels worth it and valuable for what you pay.
- Cuisines lean Local, Indian and Western. Some dishes are executed well, others average. Carbs and starches stand out: naan, olive fried rice and mee goreng are nicely seasoned. Mini chicken glutinous rice is steamed perfectly. Mac n cheese disappeared too quickly to try. Pasta overall was normal and could use more seasoning.
- Fried food such as spring roll, breaded shrimp and wonton are deep‑fried to a golden brown crisp exterior.
- Tomato soup is homemade, creamy and tangy. It is one of their recommended dishes and worth trying.
- Desserts are tastisfying: pulut hitam stirred smoothly, mini cheesecake with an extremely creamy cheese layer, mango sago chilled and rich. Fresh watermelon is juicy and sweet.
- DIY fishball noodle section is quirky, though the broth is herbal chicken soup rather than fishball soup.
- Freeflow ice water is provided.

Needs Improvement (IMO)
- Queue management needs serious work. The crowd is atrocious. If you are at the front it is fine, but at the back you wait at least 20 minutes, and by then many items are gone and you must wait for top‑ups.
- Food replenishment is too slow. Staff are clearly busy once the buffet starts, walking back and forth to the kitchen, clearing plates and attending to customers. A better workflow plan would improve the experience for both staff and diners.
- Workflow feels chaotic. Plates and bowls run out quickly, and in desperation they top up using takeaway boxes.
- The live pasta station does not feel live. The chef is missing most of the time when I went for food, so I did not get to enjoy this service. The carbonara and aglio olio pasta trays at the front are a good addition, since you do not need to queue for pasta, but they cannot be customised.
- Forty‑five minutes is too rushed. If queuing takes 30 to 40 minutes due to the crowd, you are left with only 5 to 15 minutes to eat. That feels like paying to queue rather than paying to eat. Extending the time limit to one hour would be more suitable.

Just had a great Seafood Spectacular Dinner Buffet at Greenhouse, Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore. My stomach was so full that I had trouble getting up and leaving. 😆

This buffet is only available on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 9.30pm.
Friday: $82++ per adult | $41++ per child (under 12)
Saturday: $92++ per adult | $41++ per child (under 12)

The pricing may look intimidating, but with @eatigo_sg I managed to save up to 50% before GST and service charge, which meant I paid half price. That is such a great deal. Since the buffet starts at 6pm, it is best to make a reservation at that time so you can enjoy the spread until closing.

The menu rotates occasionally, so it is worth checking their webpage for updates. Among the highlights, the Singapore Chilli Crab was outstanding, with a sauce that nailed the perfect balance of sweet, savoury, tangy, and mildly spicy. The crab meat was tender and disappeared quickly once served.

Other dishes that were especially good included the Tom Yum Goong, which was rich, aromatic, and comforting. The Double Boiled Assorted Mushroom with Pork Ribs Soup was deeply nourishing and soothing, while the Prawn & Crab Bisque was packed with umami depth and paired perfectly with the assorted breads. On the lighter side, the Cocktail Jello was refreshingly sweet, and it worked well as an alternative to cold water or coffee and tea since drinks are not included in the buffet. The Chocolate Ice Cream was icy with bits of chocolate that gave it a pleasant texture and taste.

As for the setting, the restaurant’s lush forest-themed interior truly lived up to its name. Greenhouse surrounds diners with greenery and a warm, natural atmosphere, which makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Do note that the place can be a little hard to get to if you do not have transport. From the nearest bus stop, it takes about a 20‑minute walk to reach the restaurant. Think of it as a bit of exercise before going in to eat more, and then again on the way out to help with digestion.

Recently, I had lunch at Royale Mercure Bugis which runs from 12 pm to 2.30 pm, priced at $65++ per adult and $32.50++ per child. Dinner is $75++ and $37.50++ per child. The menu rotates daily so every visit feels fresh and you never quite know what surprise dishes will show up.

Seafood on ice was a joy. The prawns were sweet, bouncy, and easy to peel with cutlery, which made them extra enjoyable without the mess. Squid leaned chewy, while blue swimmer crab and mussels rounded out the spread. The steamed tiger prawns in Chinese wine were fragrant and tender, and the steamed fish came out moist and clean tasting.

The live station lamb cutlets were juicy and tender, with just the right bite. Slow roast beef was soft and hearty. Pork knuckle stew was fatty melt in the mouth goodness. Satay tasted smoky and authentic, duck and chicken were nicely spiced, and wonton noodles gave a comforting touch. French onion soup with parmesan toast was rich and satisfying.

Desserts and drinks rounded off the meal well. Free flow coffee and tea, plus juices like orange and apple, kept things refreshing. Fruits that day were rock melon, watermelon, and dragonfruit, all sweet and juicy. Almond pudding with longan was silky, black forest cake rich, pear crumble homely, caramel custard smooth, and DIY muah chee fun to make. Hot cheng tng was a nostalgic sugary drink to finish with.

Overall, the buffet gave me variety, freshness, and comfort. My belly was happy and satisfied.

We visited Hathaway recently and loved the experience. The dinner buffet at Capital Tower is boutique in scale but focused on quality. Priced at $96++ per adult for 1.5 hours, the spread feels thoughtfully curated. The 1‑for‑1 promotion for DBS, POSB, Maybank, and OCBC cardholders runs until 30th June 2026 and is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays, bringing the value to about $58 nett per guest after GST and service charge. Free‑flow Prosecco is available at $36++ per pax.

Western selections featured Fresh Oysters that were briny, moderately sized, plump, and downright shiok. I kept slurping them and easily polished off more than 18 pieces, making this alone worth the visit. Barramundi Meuniere was well executed but felt overshadowed once compared with the richer curries. Roasted Australian Beef with Entrecote Sauce was tender overall, though some cuts leaned dry. Linguine Aglio Olio with Mixed Seafood carried a tastisfying umami depth and was well balanced, while Gratinated Cheese and Potato offered a simple comfort bite. Roasted Asparagus was crunchy and well seasoned. Stir‑Fried Buttermilk Prawns were cocktail‑sized, bouncy, and nicely flavoured, adding a playful touch to the Western spread.

Southeast Asian flavours gave the buffet its distinctive character. Ah Nya’s Fish Curry was silky, layered, and more enjoyable than the barramundi. Beef Cheek Rawon was heavier but tastier, with meat more tender than the roast beef, though having a lot could feel jelak. Gado Gado came with a rich Peanut Sauce that turned out to be one of the most memorable elements of the meal. It was versatile enough to elevate other dishes, even rescuing the Chicken Galae Skewers, which were seasoned well but whose marinated sauce lacked depth. Nasi Ulam and Sambal were fragrant though fairly normal, while Tempeh Orek was savoury and crunchy. Kueh Pie Tee was pre‑arranged and filled, making it very easy to eat without fuss, while Razor Clams with Glass Noodle and Garlic Soy added a savoury seafood garlic punch.

Desserts were the strongest section. Moist Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting was comforting, while the Coffee Chocolate Tartlet and Lemon Meringue Tartlet stood out as highlights. The Coffee Chocolate Tartlet impressed with its stronger, deeper flavour that lingered pleasantly, while the Lemon Meringue Tartlet offered a refreshing contrast, light with a sweet‑sour balance that cut through the heavier mains. Pulut Hitam with Coconut Milk was not burnt, pleasantly chewy, and balanced in sweetness. Sago Gula Melaka was interactive, with coconut cream and gula melaka provided separately so you could add to your desire, making it a fun and customisable finish. Traditional favourites like Kueh Ko Swee and Kueh Salat added a local touch.

Drinks were kept simple with coffee, tea, and juices in orange and apple. Service was attentive and efficient, with plates cleared quickly to keep the dining flow seamless. The atmosphere felt intimate compared to larger hotel buffets, and while the spread is smaller, the quality and thoughtful touches, from peeled prawns to pre‑arranged kueh pie tee, made the experience wonderful.
