Speakeasies
Though it’s a stone throw’s from my place, have not been to this hidden cove along Middle Road for eons. The roasted cauliflower with aloumi was totally delish and addictive. The eggplant hummus with the bread bag complementing the complex layering of flavours of the chilli and sweet onions. The swordfish kebab was a tad on the dry side for our palate - would be better either more charred ends or Ahi-style. We had a bottle red but the cocktails looked interesting. Nice company, nice food~
Im huge on octopus leg - like the tangy thai-like sauce with lightly seared cherry tomatoes. The cheese platter was really good with honeycomb and sundried raisins done in house on vine. Would like to try more of their food soon.
Always feel pampered here as I don’t have to crack my brains on what to order - they will ask and curate something for you. The beef was consistently awesome and the fish on nan was so well-fried with crispiness on the outside and juiciness in the inside with no oiliness.
Gotta be the most diluted flat cocktails I ever had in a while and even presentation was inconsistent. We ordered like 4 rounds to be ascertained it was our taste bud. The grilled seabass was good with the fish skin having slight crisp ends - the accompanying broccoli was lovely. The pekin duck rolls and the fried prawns and calamari from the lounge menu were a total miss - they were soaked in excessive oil. The frying crew needs better training on the oil temperature control. Serving was Extremen generous though. The soft shell crab spaghetti was alright but mediocre, we left it largely untouched. The pizza and the roast pork belly on the other table did look tantalizing and the patrons did polish them clean. Likely will come back for the view and maybe a lager with pizza. No more of the bad cocktails for sure.
Sweet and delightful with aged rum as base, with mango puree, apricot jam, topped with burst-in-your-mouth mango boba.
Indulgent. Cheese always makes one happy. Bread was good. Salami and ham selection was of generous portion. Awesome service and wonderful company
A little too coying for me.
Local comfort food Rojak in Pie Tee shell. Interesting presentation.
Simmered fried thai jasmine rice in century-egg- petai-ulam-raja reduction, topped with king prawns. Was not too overpowering for me as century egg is never my thing. Prawns were delish, and there were 5 of them! Total indulgence!
I remembered this tasted way better and magical the other round. This time round, unfortunately a miss for me as the otah was a little dry and slightly overdone. The seared barrumundi stomached the mackerel-and-squid-blend otah served with sambal, achar and chinchalok.
Well-handled seared/grilled squid is always my weakness. Nothing too tough. The gado gado sauce is a different rendition with sambal-infused peanut sauce with petai. The fish cracker is a good compliment.
Laut serves largely seafood - good for pescatarians. This rendition reminds me of Thai Red Curry yet somewhat not that spicy with a tinge of sweetness lingering note, and the creaminess is not too cloying even without any rice. The fish of the day is barramundi sourced in the region, and the white clams and mussels are well-handled and juicy. The gravy goes well with the curry-spiced papadum. A must order!
