📍: Brotzeit Westgate
🍥: Pork Knuckle Flatbread ($22), Farmer’s Sausage ($22)

🍞: Schweinshaxn Fladen (Pork Knuckle Flatbread) (~$22)
👅Taste: 10/10
⚖️Worth: 9/10

Was initially a little skeptical about how a flatbread would fill us up for lunch but the flatbread didn’t fail to impress! Nicely toasted but still chewy, the bread almost reminded me of a pizza. They put a chunk of pork knuckle on each slice making sure every piece had some crackling goodness! Not to forget their sauce which was a little mustardy and sweet and rlly oomphed the dish. The only thing we wished was that the food was warmer, but this was possibly due to the weather being cold and rainy cooling everything down real fast.

🐷: Bauernwurst (~$22)
👅Taste: 7.5/10
⚖️Worth: 7/10

Can’t come to Brotzeit without trying their sausages right? So we got a farmers sausage which came which a bed of potatoes and a generous serving of Blaukraut (german red cabbage). One the side were mustard and hot mustard sauce dips! The sausage was flavorful and we could taste the ground texture of the meat while the sides were a little underwhelming >.<

Overall, we really enjoyed the flatbread and will definitely order it again in the future. The next time we go with friends we might just get the whole pork knuckle ! New Brotzeit members (sign up is free) get a complimentary bowl of pork crackling (but we too found it a little underwhelming 🙁). Brotzeit has many branches in Singapore and is a great place to have dinners when you’re craving a piece of Germany without being there physically! The meal was made more affordable with burpple’s 1-4-1 deal so grab a friend and head down there today :D

Ordered my thai zichar fix from 99 Thai Taste! They are your typical homely and warm downstairs coffeeshop zichar place nestled below a group of HDB blocks - just that they serve and bring you a platter of Thai goodness and solid delicious food.

I had the Stir-fried kangkong ($7), kai lan ($7), omelette with crabstick and minced chicken ($7), and petai pork ($10), and their thai fishcakes ($6)! All of them were freshly cooked from the pan and were scrumptious. The curry gravy from the petai pork was impeccably rich, and went sooo well with a bed of rice to stabilise the strong flavours. Their thai fishcakes are strongly recommended too! They go well with the sweet/sour chilli sauce - juicy and decadent.

I’d be back if there were more burpple deals :( but I love this place because you can just drop the owner a text (their number on their profile), order, then pay upon collection! so fast and easy :)

Dabao’ed this back home! This place is nestled in a typical downstairs-coffeeshop bustling and filled with grab/foodpanda delivery riders. Be prepared to wait at least 10min in queue!

Had the above set ($16 for 2), and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The grilled chicken was moist and tender, and the pork sausage gave me a shock, because I thought it was some salty frozen sausage you can find anywhere, but it was creamy and savoury. Each set comes with spaghetti, salad, corn, and tomato soup.

On the downside, it was probably too peppery. But worth a shot if you’re in the area! Will definitely come again!

Dabao’ed this from Ekiben, proudly run by a lovely family business on Level 2 of Pasir Ris Hawker Centre!

The teriyaki chicken had a smooth glaze and scrumptious grill, and wasn’t too sweet or salty. the bed of japanese rice was generously topped up with sesame seeds, and generous servings of salad, edamame, and a gyoza!

I also like the daily special - it’s usually tofu, mushrooms, and today, it was nacho chips with a homemade salsa. Although this ain’t Jap, i loved the twist.

Overall, very reliable go-to for lunch!

Came here on a buzzling tuesday night! The interior gave bar-food court vibes and seats filled up around 7.30pm. We ordered the mentaiko salmon aburi don and the mixed seafood katsu don. Utensils are disposable which kinda downplayed the whole ambience

Salmon Don ~$11.90
Upon first impression, the salmon don was really kinda sad. The salmon pieces was thin and the bulk of the small dome was made up of rice. Salmon and mentaiko was nothing out of the ordinary and definitely not worth the OG price of 11.90.

Katsu seafood don ~$11.90
Seafood was fried decently but don’t expect the freshest catch of the day, in fact it might not even have been real seafood….

Overall: at $5.95 each this was passable but would not pay the full price for each :(

First impression: Bang for your bucks, at 14.90++ for an adult lunch buffet in dhoby ghaut it seemed to good to be true. We were ushered in quickly and our soup base and drinks sorted in a timely fashion. While the concept is not that different from other korean rice cake buffet hotpots in SG, the winning factor would be their inclusion of meat (pork belly, collar and chicken) in their buffet spread and ok-ok fried food (dumpling, chicken wing, seaweed chicken).

My favourite rice cake was wo a doubt the cheese one! Things that could be improved upon would be perhaps the service >.< some of the staff were not friendly and when they helped me take the pork belly, it was a whole claw full of FAT, no meat in sight 🥲 but i guess for this price point i wouldn’t expect too much 😓

Overall i think this is a great lunch place for hungry students or when you’re on a budget! the soup base is really delightful :D

Highlights of this dish definitely include the sautéed mushrooms (seriously so good) and the vine tomatoes that burst in your mouth!
Like some other burpplers i found the brioche slightly denser than other ones i’ve had before but was a good accompaniment to the eggs.
My partner and I both agreed that the candied bacon wasn’t rlly our thing, very much on the sweeter side, and we would have preferred a simple pan seared crispy bacon. Saving grace was definitely the chorizo, almost tasted homemade (not a sausage expert) and wasn’t too salty. We got 1 serving of poached eggs and the other scrambled to try and we found the scrambled eggs a little too watery but the poached eggs were good!
Hope Toby’s Estate returns to burpple so more people can try out their all day breakfasts! Seems like a popular place for work and i can imagine it to be quite packed on the weekends. So drop by soon and give Toby’s a try before it leaves burpple and enjoy the Singapore river views while you’re at it ☺️

Got these famed eclairs at jewel, but unfortunately, the Ispahan was already sold out! Nevertheless I got my hands on the Dark Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Vanilla & Pecan, the season Sesame flavour and they did not disappoint one bit! Luxurious and a sight for sore eyes, each bite was a perfect mix of goodness, intricately crafted.

U.P, $47, and using 3-for-3 discount, became $24. It is a bit too ex without burpple, and my wallet feels a little too light. A treat for special occasions, and I’ll be back for the Ispahan!

Returned here for some delicious juicy burgers at Shake Shack! The area was bustling with diners ready to sink their teeth into anything on their menu. Their toasted soft white buns are so generously buttered that I could see a creamy yellow layer and my blood pressure rising. The beef patty was juicy, soft, and rich, and the best part was the sauce: make no mistake, it goes so well with the burger to give it a nice finish. Shake Shack never disappoints and it always recommended to satisfy a good burger craving 🤩

Nestled in the buzz of downtown city life, Genius Central can be found in Far East Square right beside Telok Ayer MRT station.

I had the charcoal chicken burger (looked better in the menu), and it was pleasant! the charcoal bun was soft and buttery, and definitely complemented the chicken breast well. the sauce was really savoury, and the potatoes were baked to a crisp! however, i felt that the chicken breast was a tad dry and sad.

Overall, a good dining experience but nothing really to shout about. the ambience was great, and really a nice place to study, though their work and dine promo ($18) was not covered under Burpple.

BYOPasta ($14.30 before GST)

The pasta was truly ONE OF A KIND, every bite tasted so good! We were intrigued by the bright colors and shapes of the pasta that we don’t usually see at other pasta places and every bite had just the right amount of chew. The smoked duck wasn’t overly salty and complemented the creamy carbonara really well. We’d recommend just going straight for the house specials to get the most bang for your buck 😋

Gyudon ($9) Yakitori Don ($8)
Came around 7 and snagged the last 2 bowls of dons for the night, so for those who wanna try connect71 make sure you don’t come too late! The portions were reasonable! The beef was cooked well and the yakitori sauce had us licking our lips for more. The onsen egg was delightfully jiggly and made the dining exp much more pleasant and insta worthy 🤤

Ice Choco ($4.50), Iced Matcha ($4.50)
Bring a student run cafe, we think that the drinks were pretty decent though probably lacking any deep flavors for both drinks. If we were to come again we’d say give the iced choco a pass, or maybe try the hot version as we felt the iced one was quite dilute and sugary.
