Bukit Batok / Choa Chu Kang / Tengah
Have went past Licker many times, but finally trying it recently!
They have very reasonably priced waffles! The waffles only cost $5 (+GST), while each scoop of ice cream costs $3 (+GST)! For premium flavours, there is an additional 80 cents.
The waffle is crispy on the outside, and light fluffy on the inside. A side of honey sauce is also given for your own drizzling. Many unique flavours here to try! We got the watermelon passionfruit and oolong lavender! Between the two, I preferred the sourish watermelon passionfruit! Seems like I prefer sour sorbet kind of flavours nowadays! We also got the MR MAO mao shan wang durian flavour (this is SUPREME flavour, $6.50 per scoop)!
Head here for your late night dessert was they are open all the way to 2am!
(Plus u can use CDC vouchers here!)
If you stay in the west, you will be happy to know that DAN LAO has opened a new outlet at Tengah Plantation Plaza!
I have visited the original Maxwell outlet years ago to try it! Tried the Char Siew Rice the previous time. But as I was ordering, we noticed so many customers infront of us getting the luncheon meat / chicken cutlet bowl, so we decided to try the chicken cutlet bowl this time round!
I love the silky scrambled eggs! Best to dine in, else the eggs will become cooked eggs if you take it away. Will be better if more sauce is given for the whie rice! Super love their chilli though, very savoury and got kick one! Fried chicken cutlet was nicely marinated. But if you are trying to avoid fried food in your diet, may be better to try their char siew or prawn bowl instead!

Exploring food places in the west brought us to @laifaba 来发吧 !
Visited on a weekend a few minutes right before opening hours, and there was already 3 groups waiting to enter! (We didnt make any reservations earlier as it was an impromptu decision to head there to eat).
This place is famous for their traditional wanton noodles and woodfire-roasted meats! What is special about this place is that you can even choose your meat cut options - lean, mixed or fatty! Seriously, this is the best customisation ever, as I love lean char siew meat! (don't really love the super fatty kind).
The bowl of signature noodle is $12++ though! Kinda expensive if you compare it to coffeeshop/hawker pricing. But if you compare it to tze char restaurant / cafe pricing, this is still relatively cheaper! Springy noodles, sweet caramelised sugar, with crispy fried wanton. The soup also had boiled wantons too! Comes with half a lava egg as well! The chilli sauces are available at each table - normal chilli, extra spicy chilli, or green chilli. Also ordered the taufu meat pocket ($12++) which was quite special!
The restaurant was nicely decked in nostalgic and vintage furniture.
A nice place to come at least once to try out the food!

Who else loves claypot chicken rice!
On the search for nice claypot chicken rice in the west. Today, our search brought us to Bao Fa Traditional Food 宝发传统小食 at Bukit Batok!
We called 45mins in advance to place our order for takeaway, so there was no waiting time required! This was the medium size portion ($16) which is enough for 2 -3 pax! The chicken meat was tender and well seasoned! However, as it was a takeaway order, the rice seemed to lack some charcoal claypot wok hei taste. The chilli used here reminds me of those used for chicken rice chilli, spicy and with kick!

Pretty Macarons from @bonheurpatisserie !
Featured here is the GO LOCAL 3.0 Box which has the following unique localised flavours: Orh Nee, Ong Lai Tart, Osmanthus Citrus, Chrysanthemum, Kaya, Pandan Coconut, Rose Lychee, Lemon Puff, Kopi, Milo Dino
Super love the uniquely Singapore flavours! These are perfect for gifting or for house parties!
One box of 10 macarons for $25
Ban Mian/ Mee Hoon Kway with Wok Hei Taste!
The most unique ban mian stall in Singapore is this! Their soup has a wok hei taste (slightly burnt flavour). It is a love or hate relationship with this unique soup! I super love their chewy banmian and mee hoon kway! Have since came to eat it 3 times already!
They have various outlets in Singapore!
I visited the one at 177 Bukit Batok West Ave. 8, Singapore 650177!
Hokkien Mee at THE NEIGHBOURWOK!
We tried to eat this on two attempts before we finally could! Because their operating hours are quite limited, for lunch it is 11am-2.30pm! But somehow, we always happen to reach at around 2-2.30pm timing, where they are either sold out or closed taking orders for lunch!
So finally able to eat this recently!
We got the $5 small portion, and it was quite a substantial portion! There are two prawns, some squid and sliced pork in it! The hokkien mee is the wet kind! For taste, I thought it resembled the white beehoon in terms of the starchy sauce and the citrusy spicy chilli sauce! The ingredients are also almost the same!
Recommend to try! But waiting time is usually at least 15mins, not a food to order if you are rushing for time!

Love the pastas here! Full of flavours! Seafood angel hair laksa pasta was also so unique!

Finally visited Coexist Coffee Co. at Hillview!
Took so long for us to visit this cafe outlet till they have changed out from the iconic red white layout! Now it is a grey industrial theme vibes already!
Here is what we ordered:
-Squid Ink Fried Rice ($26++): Super unique dish! Served in a claypot! There is tiger prawns, baby squid, and topped with lots of ikura! Very unique taste!
-Chilli Crab Shakshuka ($18++): Comes with a huge tempura soft shell crab, chilli crab tomato dip, fried mantou and a sous vide egg!
-Satay Quesadilla ($18++): Pulled pork satay with mozzarella and comes with peanut sauce!
My favourite is per the above order ranking! We ordered 3 dishes as we were famished after 3+ hours of discussing reno stuff prior! Say hi to the new neighbouring neighbourhood!
Finally visited iO Italian Osteria!
Funny story behind this visit. My colleague recommended me to check out this place more than 4 years ago! I have been bookmarking this restaurant for the LONGEST time! Have made many chope reservations and then cancelling it because the location was kinda out of the way! Finally after so many years of procrastination, FINALLY visited this place! Luckily we made a chope booking reservation before heading down, because it was so crowded, even on a weekday lunch timing!
Here is what we ordered, most are the best seller recommended dishes:
-Traditional Stuffed Roman Schiacciatta with truffle ($10 for small size) - This was the highly anticipated food item! While it was good, it did not blow my mind
-Orecchiette Pork sausage with saffron sauce ($19) - We were puzzled when this dish was served as the minced pork was not very visible. But quite a nice dish as it is pretty unique
-Home made Tagliolini with Prawns, Asparagus, Lemon and Aromatic Breadcrumbs ($22): Opps, this was our least liked dish. The small portion size served caught us by surprise. LOL
-Pistachio Tiramisu ($14): I am not typically a tiramisu lover, but PISTACHIO lover I am, hence we got it to try! It was good!

Overeat on good food at @overeatsg !
Overeat is the sister outlet of The Three Peacocks @ Labrador Park! Overall, I enjoy this place much more as it is in a comfortable air con seating environment!
This is a very value for money buffet! You get to enjoy hotpot, grilled meat, cooked food, fried food snacks, sushi, sashimi and fresh oysters, pizza, salad and fruit bar, cakes, drinks and ice cream!
For the hotpot food selection, you can choose from the 3 soups offered - mala, sukiya or miso soup! There is also a wide variety of hotpot food ingredients - mushrooms, corn, veg, sliced fish, prawn, clams, scallops, shabu shabu meat, balls, sausage, seaweed chicken etc! So many choices! You can even head to the condiment bar to make your own chilli sauce dip!
For the cooked food selection there is LAKSA NOODLES, as well as chilli crab sauce with mantou! Don't miss out on the truffle mushroom soup as well, which I totally love!
End off the meal with some sweet treats - cheesecake, swissrolls, cakes, eclairs, cream puffs, and ice cream!
New Ice Cream Shop - Ri Ri Cha 日日茶 at Chinatown!
They specialise in tea-flavoured ice cream, and very well known for their nian gao waffle!
Ordered the Nian Gao Waffle + 2 scoops of ice cream ($15.80)!
Picked Osmanthus Oolong and the Matcha Butterfly Pea Soy!
The osmanthus oolong was light tasting!
The Matcha Butterfly Pea Soy was a very interesting flavour! Comes in a contrasting blue green colour which resembles earth to me! The matcha taste and soy flavour was well balanced, I quite enjoyed it! I also prefer this flavour to the other one we got!
As for the Nian Gao Waffle, I love how the nian gao was spread throughout the waffle! The waffle was crispy on the outside and chewy mochi-like on the inside! Love the slight brown sugar taste to the nian gao too!
They are located at 24 Sago Street.
