I've reviewed the green tea Hokkaido roll a while back so I decided to try the Tiramisu roll this time. Lemme just say its about 3 times better than the green tea one imo 👌

The cream is really light and has a surprisingly stronk coffee taste. Paired with the suuuper soft chocolate cake and the dusting of cocoa powder on the surface of the roll, this may just be my favourite donki cake by far.

Worth getting fosure! I hear that the other flavours are pretty meh but I found this one to be hella bomb.

This coffee roll from Bengawan Solo is basically a treat for all my fellow coffee lovers cum haters, with a light yet fragrant coffee aroma embedded in the dense, soft cake, paired with the savoury, buttery buttercream. A really classic tasting treat that could bring you back to the old days of enjoying a lovely cake in a coffeeshop watching your children chase chicken around the fields. Ok I don't actually have that experience in real life but you get the idea.

This cake slice is pretty thin for the price, while it tastes like a classic treat, I don't think the price is very justified but not bad!

This pudding comes with a layer of matcha castella cake atop a layer of pudding. I'm not sure exactly what the pudding is, but I had this frozen (since it's put in the freezer at DDDK anyway) and it definitely didn't have a pudding-like consistency or texture. If I were to describe the taste, I'd say that it's very similar to those cheap frozen cheesecakes sold for $9.90 in Sheng Shiong (the ones with the toblerone and daim... you know the one.)

Getting this dessert is the equivalent of spending $40 on a plain white tee when you could get much fancier clothes for $5 at Bugis Street. Sure, the quality isn't as fantastique, but for 8x cheaper? There are so many fantastic desserts at DDDK that are wayyy cheaper so heed my advice and just get those instead of this because $4.90 is not justified.

I don't trust anyone who dislikes mangoes. What's there not to like about them? They're sweet, juicy, refreshing and unbelievably delicious. One of my favourite forms of mango dessert is mango pudding, which is what I got from Swee Heng.

This mango pudding comes with a layer of pudding atop a really soft cake. The pudding is very very creamy, much like a custard as compared to a more jelly-like pudding. It's pretty sweet so paired with the cake, the sugary-ness can get a bit jelak after a while.

A pretty nice dessert but I think I prefer Swee Heng's other cakier options. However a good try if you're into mango or fruity cakes!

🍰 Uji Matcha Hokkaido Roll
📍Don Don Donki
📌 Multiple Outlets
💰 $9.80

Upon finding out that Don Don Donki had imported a whole bunch of new roll cakes, I knew I had to get my grubby hands on one of them. Compared to their famed souffle rolls, these Hokkaido rolls are much longer and thinner. I suppose it comes down to personal preference on whether length or thickness satisfies you more, but these small slices are really well portioned for a quick cakey bite.

The chiffon cake is soft, albeit not as soft as their souffle rolls. It's a bit spongier in texture. The cream has a pretty strong and milky matcha taste and the ratio of cake to cream is pretty balanced, compared to the souffle roll in which the cream dominates a large chunk of volume.

So far Don Don Donki hasn't let me down with any of their roll cakes! Though these Hokkaido rolls are a little pricey at $9.80 for a roll, the quality can be tasted. I still prefer their souffle rolls but these are worth a try!

🍰 Pandan Cheese Roll
📍Bengawan Solo
📌 multiple outlets
💰 $1.70

When I think about common flavour combinations with pandan, I wouldn't think of cheese. The idea of putting cheese together with pandan cake is pretty strange, but I decided to give it a try anyway! At $1.70 for a relatively small and thin slice, this cake is slightly pricey while still remaining relatively affordable.

The pandan cake is really dense and soft with a light pandan fragrance. The cheese filling has kind of a flaky texture. Initially I was expecting it to taste like regular creamy cream cheese, but the filling is actually buttercream with bits of shredded cheese inside. Really odd to be honest, having shredded, flaky savoury cheese paired with a strong buttery sweet cream. I wasn't really a big fan of this combo.

Generally a really unique cake but I wouldn't get it again. It's a pretty unorthodox pairing and maybe you'll enjoy it but personally I'd give it a pass.

This cake is totally BOOOOOOMB OMG. The cake is sweet and really soft and fluffy, and the yam filling is really good! It has a nice sweet yam fragrance and I really like the texture. I was expecting the yam filling to be yam-flavoured cream, or something that tastes like those typical cake creams, but thankfully it isn't and actually tastes like yam. It's pretty comparable to BreadTalk's Yammy Mummy cake filling, except less chunky and much cheaper.

The salted egg custard is kind of overwhelmed by the yam though, I couldn't taste it at all when I had them together. When I tasted it alone, it definitely has a pretty strong savoury salted egg taste! Would be great if it was a bit more well balanced with the yam filling, but still delicious.

Go get yourself some if youre a taro / salted egg lover as this chiffon cake is 100% dino approved 👍

Ps just found out that they also sell this at neighbourhood Swee Heng outlets for $4.50, it's cheaper so get yours there if you can!

First time trying a cake from Swee Heng! I was actually expecting this cake to be those moist lava cake kinds of breads but it was actually just those regular chocolate chiffon kinds. Though it's not shown in the pics, there's a thick layer of caramel sauce on top of the cake and it's really sweet, the cream is really nice too! I especially love the generous topping of chopped almonds, which gave it a nice crunch.

Overall a pretty nice cake! I don't usually buy cakes because of how pricey they are but I think this is still relatively affordable and worth a try. It may be a bit too sweet for some though, but if you have a sweet tooth and love almonds, I'd recommend trying this!

The cake in this roll is those really dense and kinda heavy kinds, making it a lot more filling. I really liked the pandan cake and the coconut flakes on top gave it a bit of added crunch / chew. However I found the inner layer (I think it's gula melaka flavoured apparently??) Kinda odd tbh. The cream inside tasted like red dates, which I'm not really a big fan of, so the cake immediately got kinda jelak for me. If you like red dates though, you probably wont mind it that much.

The cake is suuuper soft and dense, and the kaya is surprisingly blue instead of green :O I don't find the kaya taste to be all that strong tbh, it tasted more like an ambiguous sweet filling, but I still liked it nonetheless! I'd probably call it a pandan roll instead of a kaya roll. The filling is pretty substantial in relation to the cake!

I tried the pandan roll from The Hainan Story a while back and the biggest difference would be the price. R&G's roll is REALLY LONG AND THICC 👅💦 while THS's is smaller and shorter oop I guess size does matter because this roll is a lot more affordable for its price. As for the taste, both are similar in terms of the softness and denseness of the cake. THS's kaya is more prominent, but for the price, R&G is the way to go. I can see why they have such long queues because $10 for this long and heavy roll is 👌👌 a very justifiable booty call, now I know to check it out next time!

the cake is a tad dry, compared to Bread Story's which is really soft and sweet if eaten fresh. The cake also wasnt as sweet. The amount of floss inside, compared to the thickness of the cake, was really little and not enough imo. There also isn't any egg cream inside so it's pretty dry. However, still tastes quite good!

BreadTalk's momoji is still superior in terms of taste, but for the price, this is not bad. Just don't expect your floss cravings to be satisfied. Bread Story's is still better but it'd be great if they made theirs bigger plsss

The texture of this cake is slightly more kueh-like than other banana cakes I've had. Usually those have a more cakey, crumbly texture but this is more firm and oily and like kueh. Texturally I prefer the cakier types but this is interesting.

And again, this banana cake is soooo fragrant omg it's banana cake goodness in every bite!! The taste is really strong and I really like it. I think for those who dont like a super strong banana taste, you may not like this but I did.
