Recommended to me by Chef Jean George, Sadelle’s in New York’s SoHo is where everyone heads to for bagels and house-made fish.
Whichever of their fishes you choose: house salmon, smoked Scottish salmon, sable, sturgeon, whitefish salad or salmon salad, it comes served on a multi-tiered platter with your selected bagel, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, dill and capers. How you like combine them is entirely up to you.
Speaking of bagels, they offer plain, sesame, poppy seeds, “everything”, “everything 2.0”, salt & pepper and cinnamon raisin. What‘s particularly interesting is you can watch the staff make the bagels in a glassed-up room in the middle of the restaurant.
Even though takeaway from the bakery is available, the restaurant’s ambience has an old-world charm that makes it alluring to dine in.
If you are planning a trip to New York, Sadelle’s needs to be on your agenda.

One of the specials at this establishment recommended to me by Chef Jean George, is the French Toast. It‘s huge, eggy and as seen in my video, very pillowy with an ultra soft middle and a deep golden-brown caramelised exterior. The accompaniments to this superior form of French Toast are a jug of real maple syrup and a berry jam.
I suggest ordering one to share if there are two of you because you’ll want to save space to enjoy Spadelle’s freshly-made bagels (you can watch the process as it’s done right on the premises) and house-cured fish.
