Braised Shredded Duck Meat Soup With Tofu (SGD $9.80 per person) @ Kai Duck. This is a novel modern Chinese Cantonese double-boiled soup / broth, that is warm, soulful, and comforting. . The thick gloopy soup / broth has delicate eggy sweet smoky savoury flavour, from the inclusion of chewy tender shredded duck meat, wispy eggs, silky tofu beancurd, crisp spinach, and crunchy spring onions. . A dash of black vinegar lends a contrast of sour notes in taste. . . . Kai Duck More details in profile & blog

Roasted Duck (SGD $28 Half) @ Kai Duck. Had this on a separate return visit. While this differs from the Beijing style Peking Duck, the roast duck here is as good as any other. . The use of Irish Silver Hill ducks result in the duck meat being tender, moist, and super succulent, with a light chew to texture, and a thick gelatinous layer of fat (which is easily removed if you choose). . Each bite gets you a burst of meaty salty savoury flavour, nicely satisfying. . Served with a thick gloopy sour plum sauce on the side, which has fruity sour sweet flavour. . . . Hot Buttermilk Chicken I鈥檓 back at Chico Loco for dinner as there is a one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond for mains, sides and drinks馃槂 The Hot Buttermilk Chicken ($13) is pretty good - the fried chicken is huge, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It goes well with the slaw, jalape帽o, pickled cucumber and hot sauce mayo between two pillowy toasted sesame buns. The Roast Vegetables ($6) consist of roasted beets, carrots and cauliflower topped with a creamy cashew salsa sauce. Love how wallet-friendly and yummy this is:)

Spit-Roasted Chicken My colleague and I decided to pop by Chico Loco for lunch since we have not tried it before. The Chicken Combo Lunch Special comes with spit-roasted chicken ($23 for half, $16 for quarter), coleslaw and a choice of fries or rice. The roasted chicken is surprisingly good - it is flavourful, tender and juicy, and it goes very well with the creamy and slightly acidic Chimichurri yoghurt sauce that we picked from a selection of 5 sauces. The coleslaw consists of green papaya, cabbage, macadamia, mint and chilli, and for some reason, it has a garlicky kick and reminds me of chicken rice. The fries go very well with the spicy chipotle mayo dip as well. We also ordered Chips & Guac ($7) to share, which came with a generous portion of guacamole. Overall, the atmosphere of the fast-casual Mexican restaurant is great, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. Till the next visit!

Garlic Butter Donburi The butter melted quickly, taste of the garlic was strong. Beef was tender and portion was generous. The egg, beef and garlic butter compliment each other well. Worth the 1 for 1.

Truffle Cream Salmon ($15.90) The Japanese phrase will tell you that you have three faces, the first one you show to the world, the second you show to your family, and the last you never show to anyone. The third one is often said to be the 'truest' reflection of who you are. In my case, the third face mirrors that of a simian ape on a cocaine and adrenaline overdose. - 馃搷 THE PLACE A pleasant little joint on the ground floor of The Cathay building, dim lighting and an island-seating concept that is aptly shaped like a scaled-down Noah鈥檚 Ark, this time without the animals and with more sashimi. - 馃嵔 THE FOOD 1锔忊儯 Wagyu Truffle Beef Don ($23.90) - the staple of practically every mid-scaled donburi joint at the moment, this did not fall below nor exceed expectations 2锔忊儯 Truffle Cream Salmon ($15.90) - I have a personal bias for the flaky, clean maritime flavours of salmon paired with a cream-based sauce of any kind, so add truffle into the mix, and you鈥檝e got yourself a winner of a donburi 3锔忊儯 Premium Kaisen Don ($25.90) - it comes in a miniature replica of the scaled-down Noah鈥檚 Ark previously mentioned. The entertainment value of that alone is worth half the price 4锔忊儯 Hotate Mentai ($8) - interesting take on a scallop carpaccio with the addition of cornflakes for a textural contrast - 馃 THE VERDICT It鈥檚 a sushi bar in a boat, that鈥檚 gotta be on your bucket list, right?
