Well, here’s a new addition to the small Malaysian style Bak Kut Teh family in Singapore. And it is legit good. Located in Kimly Coffeeshop at 150 Bukit Batok Street 11, this stall offers claypot Bak Kut Teh in both dry and soup versions. The meat is tender and detaches from bone easily, sweet from the medicinal broth. The pickled vegetables were salty and sour, unlike most in Singapore which are sweet and sour. Price wise, they are reasonable and there is even an opening promotion for $9 bowl of soup Bak Kut Teh plus a veg and two bowls of rice. Really glad this gap in the Singapore Bak Kut Teh scene is being filled. Sure you can go across the border and get some easily after the pandemic but the jams and the queues. And not necessarily cheaper. Strongly recommend to try this when you are in the western part of Singapore.

For 24h Bak Kut Teh Now I know where to go if I have nothing to eat near my house on rainy nights. The peppery BKT will definitely warm you up from the inside. Herbal BKT With additional ingredients topping up the small pot of Bak Kut Teh, it sums up to $10. The Malaysian Style Herbal Bak Kut Teh was decently filled with Herby flavours. The soup has a bittersweet taste coupled with the subtle and not overpowering herbs. Ingredients in the claypot were well washed and they consist of the typical ingredients like sliced button mushrooms, mixed innards, pork, Yuba and vegetables. Like most Bak Kut Teh places, soup is refillable upon request. We missed the vinegar style of Pork Trotter for the longest time! The dish was served bubbling-hot in the claypot and with a giant piece of ginger in the middle of the pot. The taste was to our liking and flavourful. Dry Bak Kut Teh is one of their signature dishes too. A mixture of pig innards and meat with dried chilli, strips of cuttlefish as well as lady's fingers. Ingredients were aplenty and this dish goes very well with the bowls of plain white rice we have. The sweet sauce coats the meat with some cuttlefish sticking onto it. The taste was delectable.

Malaysian Style Bak Kut Teh I am not a fan of Malaysian style Klang Bak Kut Teh, especially the dry version but this stall has won me over. Even the Dry version which comes with Lady Fingers is interesting in its smoky flavour. The dark soya sauce that they serve together with minced garlic and chilli padi is the legit stuff from Malaysia. The Bak Kut Teh soup is not over powering in herbal taste and leaves a lingering bitter sweet after taste on your palate. Definitely coming back to try their spicy fish tail and sesame oil chicken in Claypot.

Not bad of a bak kut teh! Feel like it's quite rare to find herbal bak kut teh and I'm glad to have found this chain! Their weekday lunch set ($10.90) consists of a regular bak kut teh, 2 sides and a drink. Do note that rice is not included, but you can choose it as 1 of your side dish. The soup itself is not bad, it has the herbal flavours and it is not too salty. The meats given were moderately tender and best paired with soya sauce and chilli! I'm surprised to find some pork liver and stomach as well, which were fresh. Not bad of an option if you are around the area!

Bak Kut Teh + Braised Big Intestine I like the soup of Bak Kut teh but the pork is a bit hard compared with songfa. The braised big intestine is very good!

Herbal Bak Kut Teh@ $7.90/$13.80 Have eaten at Feng Xiang a few times at various locations, but I have always gone for the fried porridge. This time around, decided to try their main dish, their herbal BKT. Had the medium portion at $13.90. Soup was herbally, but wasn't so overpowering. The meat easily slides off the rib bones. Meat was rather tender, but was slightly dry. Overall still a rather good BKT. But their fried porridge is still my go to dish here.

Is it a common thing nowadays for stalls selling bak kut teh to also be doing fried porridge? As compared to their closest competitor, Old World, I find that Feng Xiang’s fried porridge loses out in the wok hei, as it is not as intense, and the pork slices they give are much lesser as well. Balestier Road BKT has been around since 1966, and apparently, they stay true to their roots and uses sugarcane to prepare their BKT soup. As Balestier Road used to be a sugarcane plantation. The Premium Pork Ribs meat was tender and easily slides off the bone. Goes very well with its chilli padi, garlic, dark sauce "dip" The soup was slightly peppery and flavourful. Of coz free top up of soup is avaliable here. Could taste any sugarcane though.

Loving the broth and the tender meat! We got the Braised Pork ($6) as well, similarly the portion was small, but the meat was so tender, you probably don't need to bite into this. The braised stock was also good, aromatic and not too salty. Rice will be a wonderful complement! If I am around the area working, I do see myself coming here for lunch!

Braised large intestines 8.8++ Again, a somewhat light but deep braise, different from the braising liquid of the pig trotters It's got a slightly chewy texture, harder than my ideal but still pretty good For this price I won't say it's particularly stunning though

Tieguanyin 4.8++ I can't judge tea but this wasn't bad at all. The presentation is very unique and it allows the tea to cool quickly which was nice.

Braised pork trotters 8.5++ Very lovely that they deboned it, makes for satisfying eating. It's somewhat mild a braised but it's braised pretty well, and quite tender too. Not bad at all if not for the queue

Salted veg 3++ It's not super salty, it's more veggie that's been slightly marinated. Quite decent but very oily

Small pig hock 12++(this isn't trotters technically I believe, even tho that's what it's called on the menu and colloquially) It might look like a lot but it's alright for 1 pax, there's a huge bone in the middle. Light braise, it's decent but not particularly outstanding. For this price it's pretty tiny. Everything was very light, I almost had to drink the gravy. Let's just say there's a good reason why songfa is on the opposite end of the block and there's a perpetual queue but this place doesnt
