Those whom have been following us for quite a bit might have seen us posting quite a fair bit on Ollella from time to time — a brand that we have been following ever since their early days even before they had re-established themselves as a name synonymous with Indonesian-style kueh offerings, these folks had recently opened their newest takeaway kiosk-style concept in the basement of Our Tampines Hub. The opening of their Our Tampines Hub outlet is yet another milestone for the brand to celebrate their one decade of existence within the F&B scene in Singapore — itself being quite a feat; they have also taken the opportunity to release a few new items apart from their usual selection of kueh and cakes especially considering how they do have deep-frying equipment installed on-site at the Our Tampines Hub location.
One of the new items which is introduced in tandem with the opening of their Our Tampines Hub location which is also exclusively available here would be the Fried Banana Mochi Tapioca Ball. Sold in portion sizes of four (4) pieces and with each piece being pretty substantially sized, the Fried Banana Mochi Tapioca Ball is essentially a breaded and deep-fried tapioca ball that encases banana, mochi and desiccated coconut that is drenched in Gula Melaka. Taking a bite into the Fried Banana Mochi Tapioca Ball, we did find that the golden-brown exterior to be pretty crisp and at the same time free from grease. Whilst being made from tapioca, we didn’t feel the density within the ball from the use of tapioca; all that while one would be able to find a thin and stretchy layer of sticky mochi within that gives it a bit of a chewy texture alongside the soft, caramelised banana hidden within — the inclusion of desiccated coconut that is drenched in Gula Melaka adding a hint of earthy sweetness that one would find pretty similar to Ondeh Ondeh. Works as a great snack to have whilst paired with a cup of Kopi on the side!
