My Duck Fried Noodle ($15.90) An Asian duck confit seasoned with special herbs and served with fresh egg noodles. The egg noodles here are all handmade fresh daily, and they do make some damn good noodles. The noodles are so QQ and springy, plus they are firm and never get soggy even after sitting in fragrant chilli and sesame oil. I enjoyed the duck confit, but it did taste a little bland on its own. Thankfully there’s some chilli paste provided with the duck platter. The tender duck meat is delicious when eaten with the flavourful noodles, and biting into the crispy skin on a spoonful of noodles and meat is amazing. I really enjoyed the deep fried vegetable-stuffed tau pok as well. The batter is done really well, not too thick, and fried to a perfect crispness. The vegetable stuffing completely fell out of one half of my tau pok, but it was still yummy to eat the battered tau pok! Also, the clear radish soup served with every bowl of noodles is worth a mention! The radish makes the soup very sweet, and it’s a great way to end off a hearty meal. The soy egg in the bowl was an add-on, and unlike the noodles, it was a let down. The soy sauce flavouring wasn’t thick enough, so the egg just tasted unseasoned despite its brown appearance. The egg was soft on the inside, like a hanjuku egg, but the yolk was too overcooked to retain any runniness.

Handmade Meatballs Soup (5pcs, $6.90) Five juicy meatballs in rich aromatic broth. Seriously this broth packs a huge flavour punch. The herbs remind me of five spice, and it’s such a hearty and warming bowl of soup. There’s some water chestnut cubes inside the soup, which are refreshing and add a crunch. The handmade meatballs are really really nice too. They’re seriously juicy, and not dry at all. Apart from making super good egg noodles, these people know how to make a mean bowl of meatball soup! Recommended!!!

Tucked in a quiet corner of Shaw Centre, I Want My Noodle makes delicious artisanal noodles with fresh eggs. Kinda reminiscent of Indomie, it’s saucy, delicious and a good place to dine in town if you’re looking for a budget meal. I like their Bak Chor Mee as for $6.50 you get a sized bowl of chewy noodles and delicious fresh ingredients. • Do note they can be slightly overwhelmed during lunch time and would take slightly longer for service. Thankfully, food quality is still good.

Prawn Pork Rib Noodles $10 Detractors complain about the cost, queue and quantity of food given, and why bother with this when there's the far more popular and slightly cheaper Beach Road Prawn Noodles nearby. I argue that this is a far superior product, worth waiting and paying for. Curiously, I don't see anyone griping about $12 prawn aglio olio from Pastamania. Taste: 4/5

Craving for this now ... Da Dong Prawn Noodles. I customised my bowl with big prawn and intestines. The highlight from the prawn noodle is the broth. It’s light, tasty and more sweet (coz they are also using pork beside prawn ) compare to ordinary prawn noodle. 💰$15 📍Da Dong Prawn Noodles. 354 Joo Chiat road.

Indisputably Delicious Every Time I have come to two conclusions regarding my favourite prawn noodle stall in Singapore. 1. It is best to visit it on Mondays. This is possibly the quietest day for them so it’s easy to find a seat and the wait time for your food to arrive is brief. As you can imagine, weekends are usually a bit crazy with an endless stream of customers. 2. The $10 bowl is the one to order. I graduated from the $5 bowl to the $8 eons ago but have realised in order to feel gleefully sated, nothing beats the large serving. My go-to these days is shown above - the soup version with a mix of yellow mee and beehoon, prawns, pork ribs and pig’s intestines. Sometimes, depending on my mood, I also add on liver. As a few of you have pointed out, “Da Dong Prawn Noodles” is not cheap compared to other hawkers but I believe in paying for quality and what gives me joy. Plus that broth of theirs is seriously to-die-for.
