Inside Scoop
Now That’s What I Call A Borgar Oh. Mah. Gawd. Becky. Look at that burger. It’s so big, it looks like one of those fat guy’s burgers. And yes, I am indescribably delighted to be guts deep in this beauty of a burger. Simply (and sorta underwhelmingly) titled as the ‘Southern Fried Chicken Burger’ ($20++), this brilliant burger is a front runner for ‘best damn burger in Singapore’. What I assume to be a whole, jumbo sized thigh fillet from and extra thick chicken is jammed between a pair of fluffy, bouncy buns and generously lubricated by a judicious application of liquid cheese and decorated by a leaf of lettuce and a slice of tomato. The batter that the chicken is cocooned in is light and charmingly crispy, and the chicken is slightly spicy, but seasoned to savory satisfaction and is outstandingly juicy. This is a tasty burger, and it’s one hell of a messy one too. Take this hot meat between your lips, and soon that warm cheese is gonna squirt everywhere as you futilely fight to maintain a modicum or modesty. Make sure you’ve got an army of napkins on deck, cause this bad boy is going to rock your world and leave a massive mess. The sides are a little unconventional, as cornbread isn’t really a burger’s best buddy, and the purple slaw would be what you’d expect to see on the burger itself. Instead, you’d expect to see both elements as the supporting squad to a amply sized rack of ribs, or some fabulous fried chicken. However, they work wonders here. The cornbread was pleasantly sweet without overdoing it, and was temptingly moist. The slaw was also sweet without going overboard, but with that all important edge of acidity to take some of the richness off the burger. The only complaint I had was that there wasn’t nearly enough slaw to go round, as the pleasurable palate profile and the addictive crunchiness of the coleslaw made it a ride you never wanted to end. Pair it up with a pint of beer from the tap ($9.90 all day, son), or two glasses of crisp Chardonnay for $16 if you’re feelin’ fancy. That’s Gucci Gang right there, right in the G spot.

Southern Fried Chicken Burger ($20)😐 + Ginger Mi-Softly ($17) 🙁 + Pizza Fries 🙁 + Prawn Paste Chicken ($11)😐 + Choc Mousse Cake ($8) 😊 with games to play! 😊 The mini cake in the Southern Fried Chicken Burger is weirdly crumbly, so is the fries. Cheese in the fries tastes weird..my olfactory glands keep telling me it's old mouldy rags.. The chicken in the Southern Fried Chicken Burger was however juicy enough. The poke bowl is quite tasteless.. Umami Omega is still better is their standards are the same. Although portion wise it seems to have shrinked.🙁 Having tt one poke bowl is now not sufficient. Choc Mousse cake has a strong cinammon taste in the crust. The cute choc beans were a fun addition. Can't really go v wrong with choc cakes 😊 Alter ego has several games for ppl to play. We played the jenga😊 Heard there are variations where each block has a qn and if u pick that you have to ans tt. Sounds really fun! What happened to the food at alter ego i used to rave abt? 😔 Time for some review pls!

Triple B 💵: $20 📈: 6.5/10 🤔: Basically like every other cafe’s breakfast platter, thought the proteins (other than the bacon) on this plate as well as the mushrooms were okay. Salad had a tangy dressing which was not bad. Wasn’t a fan of the bacon as it had a sweet glaze and was basically like CNY chicken jerky - which I hate - but that’s just my own preference. Super filling, but something I don’t see myself getting again. However, they have other great mains which I definitely recommend so read those reviews and get them instead! Steaks Are High ($20) 2 pieces of steak done medium rare, 2 hash brown triangles and 3 breaded onions on a bed of rocket salad. Hmm this dish paled in comparison to the brunch we had because the steak was too lean, rendering it a bit tough and dry. It was also probably over-seasoned and I would occasionally bite down on the salt flakes they used on the steak’s exterior. The breaded onions were a bit chaotah inside (not sure if they were meant to be caramelised instead?) and there was also too much of the fried batter and too little onion. But kudos to the team for the presentation of this dish and the small finishing touches like the swipe of mustard at the side which really helped to cut the taste of the meat. Again, $10 after burpple beyond which is damn worth it cos how to get steak for $10??? But I might stick to the other brunch dishes next time I’m here.

Triple B ($20) Scrumptious big breakfast for just $10 after burpple beyond!!! This consisted of soft runny scrambled eggs, sweet grilled bacon, sautéed mushrooms, salad dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, 2 thick and juicy sausages and 2 slices of toast. Everything was pretty yummy!! Except I wish the croissant that they normally serve wasn’t changed to the dragonfruit toast cos other than the pink colour, the texture and taste was basically like normal white bread. This might just be one of the largest servings of big breakfast I’ve had at a cafe so really really value for money. The cafe itself, although situated at an ulu place, was bright and spacious, allowing me and my friend to truly sit and enjoy brunch over conversations without feeling paiseh. I’ll be back for sure with the burpple beyond!!

The Green Ducklings 23 Dec’18, Sun☁️ 📍The Green Ducklings - Fried Carrot Cake with Nacho Cheese🧀 - Unagi Sandwich🥪 - Flat White☕️ Fried carrot cake with nacho cheese (and shallot) is something different and didn’t expect it to go well, not bad for a try, but suggest to share as it may go jelak at the end (greasy & cheesy). Unagi sandwich is a miss in my opinion, it really depends, the bones wasn’t soft to the extent where I can consciously but still swallow them down my throat with the bread...the potato were nice though, I mean, potato can’t really fail right...=X The flat white is along medium bodied coffee, not bad... Think come once is enough... Bonus: Cafe filled with pastel / Tiffany blue colour, quite instagrammable... Damage: $18.80

Wagyu Beef Cheek With Roast Peppers ($28++) Don’t quite know where to begin for this, but wow. Finally understand what everyone was saying about not needing a knife, cause this has to be one of the most tender beef cheeks I’ve ever encountered 🤭🤭 Juicy and fork-level-easy tender, this is definitely a must try and still can’t get over how good this is?? Even the roasted peppers and olives on the side were delicious (I hate olives btw), with a normal side of mash. Only gripe would be that since it’s such an amazing dish, it’s only lacking that extra touch to the mashed potatoes to complete the perfection. Definitely do try especially when there’s eatigo 50% at dinnertime, and every other app possible like burpple/entertainer 👍🏻👍🏻

Linguine With Crab, Cherry Tomatoes And Peperoncino ($25++) Although clearly store-bought pasta, appreciated that the pasta was done al dente and nicely tossed in olive oil. Half expected the dish to come in tomato sauce, but like this version as well! Decent serving of toppings and definitely quite a satisfying olive-oil-based pasta! 🤤🤤 Really worth it especially with eatigo/burpple/entertainer for the food and anbience 👍🏻👍🏻

Baccala Cakes With Sea Urchin Sabayon ($18++) Understood nothing of the name but so glad we ordered it!! Essentially two salted cod cake with cheesy uni sauce, and both of went so well with each other and the salted cod cake was so good with so much flavour with every bite?? 🤤🤤 Don’t quite know how to describe this so do try this for yourself!! (especially since this place is available for eatigo 50% off at dinner time too!)
