Surprisingly Good English-inspired Cafe! Had a go on the classic Dory fish and chips ($9.90), very affordable! The dory fish was fried really nicely but still kept its flakiness and moisture. What looks like mashed potato was actually a thicker tangy mayo for your fish! If you鈥檙e feeling hungry, you can add $3.90 for another piece of dory. Wooooooorth. Ambience was really nice with a lot of for foreigners walking along Haji Lane for the added overseas feeling! Would definitely return and try other dish with Burpple Beyond!

Ridiculous Service and terrible order system We walked in at 1pm into a half-empty restaurant and was told to wait 40 minutes for the food. We were fine with it as it was a Sunday at lunch hour. The system used to order food is through scanning a QR code on the phone, and ordering on the app although there were 3 staff walking around the small store. Super troublesome, but nevermind. Waited 1 hour before we were told that our food order did not go through the system even though we ordered a latte and received it 20 minutes later and it was sent through properly. Requested nicely for the staff to have our order bumped up and be verbally conveyed to the kitchen. No, it has to go through the app and we will have to wait an additional 30 minutes for the order. Don鈥檛 come here unless you want to waste your time over mediocre food and terrible service. Burrple isn鈥檛 even worth it.

Flavourful Fishy Delight Got the Tandoori Fish, Aglio Olio and Butterbeer(non-alcoholic). Aglio Olio (with added shrimp and eggs are a must for extra few $) and butter beer were good! We still can鈥檛 figure out what is the taste of the butter beer but it reminds us of A&W Root Beer Floats. Aglio Olio had a good fragrant garlic taste with pieces of garlic topping it. The Tandoori Baked fish was really flavourful as well, but do eat it after you try the Aglio Olio as it will overpower it! Nice and tasty meal. Spent around ~$24+ with burpple but without would be ~$40+

A Hunk of A Skewer What better way to pair your evening drink with some skewers to munch on. Good variety of >30 options here, with the Wagyu Beef ($6.80++) being my favourite. Soft & tender, you can taste the natural juices & flavours of the beef. The fattiness absolutely melts in your mouth... Very shiok. Funky Cocktails & Happy Hour Le Coq is a Burpple Beyond partner - so you can get 1-for-1 lunch or dinner mains here. They have a fairly large menu that you can order from. Perfect for the office crowd, their drinks menu includes beer, wine, hard liquor & house cocktails. In this collage, you'll see some of their cocktail concoctions that we sipped on through the night! Happy Hour runs daily from 5 - 9PM, giving you a single glass of Grant's Triple Wood Blended Scotch Whiskey or Hendrick's Gin for $X at X PM, where X = 5, 6 or 7. At 8pm, it's $10 a glass which is still okay, but the earlier the better fo' sho. Addictive Thin Crisps With Creamy Dip Le Coq's California Maki Dip with Crisps ($12++) was surprisingly popular; I attribute that to how refreshing & clean it is. It's essentially a deconstructed California maki roll. Sounds simple, tastes great. The crabmeat used is fresh & flavourful, tossed together with avocado, mayonnaise & crunchy fish roe. IMHO, though, what makes this super addictive is the thin rice paper crisps on the side. Use them to scoop up the dip & comfortably crunch away. That's pretty dang unique to me. Salted Caramel Tart, Yam Ondeh Ondeh Tart ($4.50 Each U.P., On Burpplebeyond) Standing in front of the display I thought 鈥渢he tarts are larger than your mini tarts from Polar/ Delifrance, but smaller than your usual dessert/ pastry options at cafes.鈥 Size aside I was saddened by the doughy, unappetising ondeh ondeh deceptively and beautifully topped on the tart base. If I ever do return I鈥檇 stick to flavours less prone to err, like the sweet chocolate salted caramel. On to the base, the tart shells nostalgically remind me of the hard crumbly sorts I used to have from a particular commercial bakery; nothing fancifully artisan but it鈥檇 satiate.

Caramel Latte (left) & Hazelnut Latte (right) Not a fan of coffee but I think both are decent, not bad. Paid $7 for both drinks using BB 1 for 1. Wanted to go for either Matcha Latte or Avocado Milkshake but both were oos coincidentally. ;( Small cafe tucked among the many shops at Hong Lim Complex. Wanted to try the tarts after looking at the reviews but there weren鈥檛 much choices available (no ondeh, orh nee, lemon meringue, hazelnut chocolate or milo which look so good from the photos) when we went on Saturday at 5pm. Will come back to try again!

Local Flavoured Tarts Located within hong lim complex, whiskit is a homely bakery that sells local flavoured tarts such as ondeh ondeh, orh nee, milo kao tiew. Pictured is the hazelnut chocolate and the milo kao tiew tarts. While very affordably priced, the hazelnut chocolate tart is quite disappointing because the lotus cracker was already soggy- either because of the refrigeration or its not that fresh. The milo kao tiew tart was sufficiently malty with the milo nuggets on top of the chocolate custard.
