Only yesterday i saw a video of someone making coco cream from frozen young coconut flesh! just like the (ba)nana ice cream.. and voila! Today i found Froco, Frozen Coconut! Just as the young boy handed me the sample i was intrigued! He claimed it is made from Thai young coconut flesh and only has about 1% of diary.. And yes, that smooth silky refreshing coconut texture ans taste got me hooked! I bought the short one for $3.80, i was imagining atap seed would go well as a topping, and unfortunately they don't have it, however the jackfruit topping i had instead didn't dissapoint me (additional $0.80) , the tropical flavours compliment each other really well and i really like the jackfruit crunchy flesh! I prefer this over froyo, anytime! 👍🏼
It doesn't seem right if you go to an Argentinean restaurant and you don't order the steak especially if you are a meat lover! All the steaks here are imported from Argentina. There are skirt, sirloin, rib eye and beef fillet/tenderloin. The rib eye, cooked medium rare was juicy and succulent, however there was a fatty part which was a bit too chewy for me. Next time i will try another cut then!
Provolone cheese, a type of cow's cheese, originally from Italy but very common in Argentina, grilled with almonds and drizzled with oregano honey and herbs, it has gooey texture while it is warm, but it gets a bit rubbery when it gets colder. So i would recommend for you to quickly savour it right after it is served! A must for cheese lovers like me. Great for sharing!
Grilled asparagus and scallion, organic eggs (the chef told me they're excellent quality ones from NZ), girolles cream & smoked ricotta, perfectly cooked, great combination of flavours and textures, topped with fresh herbs which was excellent! Highly recommended!
Steamed white bread with kaya and peanut butter which was excellent combination of flavours, runny soft boiled egg and my usual Kopi C Kosong. A classic Singaporean breakfast with a twist.
Quinoa Goreng at Red Baron in Gillman Barracks.
Red quinoa cooked like nasi goreng, a healthier choice as quinoa is packed with protein, with pieces of prawn and chicken and it is a bit spicy as they cook it with chili padi, the sunny side up was on point with pieces of fried ikan bilis. Interesting, creative and well executed!
Big breakfast with buttery scrambled egg (you can choose betwen that or sunny side up or egg white omelette), grilled haloumi cheese on top of rocket with hint of honey, which is divine, cooked portobello with pesto on top, cooked sweet juicy red tomato on vine, beans with spicy tomato sauce which i really enjoyed, multi grain toast and i had extra side of avocado. Everything was very good except for the avocado was slightly off, you can see the brown bits from the picture, maybe i just i was just unlucky, but they shouldn't have served the over riped avocado like that.. the place was lovely, great place for Sunday brunch in Gillman Barrack, which is not over crowded, indoor and outdoor area. Would i go back again? Definitely!
Could not decide between the two flavours i had both!! Apparently the flavours blend excellently well together, even the staff admitted it's her favourite! Super greedy me had chestnut puree and bailey's soaked chestnut bits as toppings! The best i've had so far in Singapore! It's a shame the counter has no tables and chairs to sit as it is located in a small corner of Icon Village. However, it will not hold me from coming back there in the future as i'm yet to try the matha one, very soon! 🍦🍵 Btw, goma (black sesame) is the mystery's flavour this week, go get it before it changes in few days!
Fine quality ingredient matters. This is strongly proven at this take away joint in Tanjong Pagar Centre. It has 5 bar stools if you prefer to eat there, if available! The Iberico pork jowl (cheek) slices over moist rice with umami sauce, with onsen egg, i also added asparagus. The jowl was super melt in your mouth tender and moist with a slight char taste as it was grilled in a josper grill. The special sauce that moisten the rice compliments the meat nicely. And the onsen egg was just perfect! And.. their homemade chili sauce is excellent, dry chili infused sauce with a hint of coriander. A value-for-money meal with superb restaurant quality meal, i'll return soon to try their other signature: black angus sirloin!
I was there last week for the soya sauce chicken noodle but it wasn't available anymore when i arrived. Decided to order char siu noodle, and instead of wonton i requested for the dumpling. The char siu was good but somehow i got a lean meat part, i believe great char siu needs to be a bit fatty to have that juicy soft melt in your mouth texture. Just unlucky i guess, need to request for it next time! But the star was the dumpling, it is quite a generous size with juicy minced meat wrap in thin noodle.. and it has black ear fungus that gives it a crunch. Perfection!
Third time's the charm! The first time i came here, so curious to try, was slightly after 2pm. Sold out. The following weekend i went there again at 12:30 but the chicken was no longer available so i had the dumpling noodle with char siu, i really like the dumplings by the way, the real deal dumplings! Will post it after this one. So this weekend i thought i should try it again. And arriving there at 11:30 and still plenty of chicken. Woohoo! So i ordered the chicken drum stick and additional two dumplings, it was $6, the chicken was so succulent juicy and flavourful, topped with spring onion sauce. The noodle has no strong alkaline flavour which i enjoyed. The verdict? Yes indeed i have to agree with some foodies out there that this is, in my opinion, is better than the michelin starred soya sauce chicken and no crazy queue!
Also, I decided to buy the uncooked dumplings that i can freeze for future use. They are $6 for 10 pcs. Happy tummy happy me!
This Straits Malacca Cafe is located in Blk 271, Waterloo Street 01-24) just next to the Waterloo Food Centre, which runs by some peranakan aunties. It opened several months ago, i had walked pass it many times and eventually tempted to try it today when i spotted the picture of this dish on its window. I grew up with this dish, which is a Malay/Peranakan dish, which is common in Sumatra and especially in Bangka region in Indonesia, and my mother cooks it often. We call it Lempah Nanas in Indonesia, could be cooked with any kind of fish or even prawn.
The dish in this cafe $5.30 which comes with rice and $.6.30 with rice and a drink. The batang/tenggiri fish (or was it Tuna 🤔) was really fresh, with chunks of pineapple, tomato, lady finger and eggplant. The broth was super intense and bold, which i really impressed with! The veggies and pineapple were cooked through and soaked with that super delicious broth, which is mix of salty sour spicy (very mild)and freshly sweet from the pineapple. Very tasty and definitely is value-for-money kind of dish. I will definitely come back here again to try other dishes, they have nasi lemak, curry chicken, lontong, fried bee hoon etc.
