This would probably be 1 of our favourite finds around the Amoy-Telok Ayer area, amongst the countless restaurants. Interestingly, they weren’t as packed as some others although we felt they were as good, if not better than some. We liked that their appetisers were priced reasonably and came in small portions so we could try more varied dishes. We enjoyed what we had, grilled prawn, crab croquettes and especially the grilled octopus that was on point. We picked their spiced glazed pork belly which was spectacular and yummy good, flavourful and great meat-fats proportions that was pleasant to enjoy. There were more appealing sounding items on their mains, pasta and risotto list for a sumptuous meal. Similarly for their appetisers that we liked. But we were glad we saved space for dessert as the red wine poached pear we had was really memorable to end with. We would recommend to wine and dine here after having some of their cocktails and absolutely loving them. Have a little chat with Mr Star who may concoct some special mix in your drinks if you’re not going for the wine. The interior of @mpiresingapore was chic and cosy, for a formal date or comfortable gathering. The final highlight: members of @burpplebeyond would be delighted to enjoy the incredible valuable deals here. So sharing this good find, hopefully not at the expense of being harder to get a table next time.

Seafood Risotto The tomato-based Seafood Risotto ($24) from Mpire comes with octopus, tiger prawns, mussels and crabmeat, and I must say that the taste and texture are on point. The risotto is flavourful, packed with umami and the seafood is chunky and fresh. Although the portion is not big, I’m not complaining given that there is an one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond:) Wouldn’t mind returning to try out the other items on the menu!

stuffed donuts Well known for its croissants, Brotherbird also serves a dessert menu at Stateland Cafe! We tried the mochi doughnuts with soft serve ($14). The doughnuts were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, with piping hot earl grey syrup spilling out from inside. The slightly-sweet tea flavour added dimension to the savoury doughnuts! The speculoos soft serve was a little icy and a tad too sweet, tasting more like regular vanilla than caramelised cookies. I’d deem this a one and done - I’ll be sticking to their croissants the next time!

Ferrero and Banana Creampie Crossaints Oh, for the love of crossaints. Pre-ordered a box of these delicious bakes, and boy was I torn amongst the innovative yet exquisite flavors on display. The pastries at Brotherbird are fun, visually attractive and generous in size. They also deliver in the taste department, made flaky and crusty, but slightly less buttery than a traditional crossaint- allowing the custard fillings to claim centre stage. Of my box of 6, the banana cream pie cruffin shone as it was generously pipped to the brim with a lucious creamy banana cream ganache, which I must applaud for its balance of fruity and milky notes. The flaky pasty was the perfect medium for the subtle-tasting cream, every bite was satisfying without being overwhelmingly rich. Another of notable mention is the Ferrero Crossaint- a timeless combination of chocolate coated crossaint filled with a viscous hazelnut rocher ganache. Biting through the crispy rocher ganache dusted with gold-colored flakes, layered sweet pastry and finally the flowy-middle- these were reminisent of good-old Krispy Kreme's nutella-filled donut, turned up a notch.

S’mores Waffle & Soft-serve Extremely rich and thick, a perfect guilty pleasure albeit a bit pricey. The ambiance in the cafe is stunning!
