Almond Brioche, Cranberry Walnut Sourdough, Rye Sourdough, Chocolate Milk Loaf (in Bag) When a deliveroo driver ringed our intercom and presented 4 loaves and 2 croissants with Nassim Hill stickers on Saturday- I was confused but later moved by a close friend’s gesture. Looks like my love for bread has been explicitly spelt out to my circle of friends. Breakfast next morning was Nassim Hill’s croissants which are good but fall short of the perfect croissants with its thick doughy layers in the center. I apologies but I’ve had a lot of croissant to be nit-picky. The almond brioche loaf was decent but slightly airy. It almost felt like too much dry ingredient, lacking the indulgent nature you’d expect of brioche. Yet strangely the butter content seeps through on a paper plate. That said, there were definitely stand outs from the lot- I loved Nassim Hill’s sourdough for its thin crust. The sourdough starter used also gave the slices a nice tang without it being sharply acrid. The milk chocolate “loaf” which was really a non-chilled cake was another delicious sweet treat I’d recommend.

Aint worth the pricetag 4 pieces of waffles with a few strips of bacon - $20. Tbh it is quite underwhelming as it was listed as a main. Wont be coming back for this, perhaps other items on the menu.

Truffle Mac And Cheese $19++ Used eatigo for this so it was super worth and and really good!! One of the better mac and cheese around! Bread crumbs together with the baked mozzarella cheese at the top layer was amazing!! Truffle taste was quite strong too. Cheese sauce was cheesy and not too creamy/jelak. Will come back to try others or even for this again 😛 The cheddar cheese bacon waffles behind was also good, if you like savory waffles! There were 4 pieces of waffles given which was quite filling and the waffles were very crispy!

Order In Some Healthy Eats While On Circuit Breaker Mode T R E A T Today’s lunch was courtesy of my friend Mike, and it came from @summerlongsg. Because I got to customise my “Summer Bowl”, these were what I picked: Chicken Shish for protein (the breast meat was prepared in big chunks but oh my goodness - there was such tenderness and flavour to be had), a Greek Salad for greens and Quinoa as a base. There’s a dip to go with the pita bread too and initially, I had a hard time deciding between the Cauliflower Hummus and Tzatziki but the latter eventually won. The other news worth sharing is that The Dandy Partnership (they own @summerlongsg @neonpigeonsg @fatprincesg) has joined forces with a few other restaurant groups such as @unlistedc, the K2 Group and the @lobeholdgroup, to collate all their takeaway/delivery menus within ONE WEBSITE. This gives customers the freedom to order food from a few establishments simultaneously and have it all sent together. Check it out: www.dineinmovement.com

Honey Parfait ($15++). Ending off the Greek dinner here with Meditteranean must-haves, the Honey Parfait topped with green apple compote, and dressed with forest fruits and raspberry sauce. It's very, very sweet, but was too good to pass up. The touch of aromatic honey was what made the difference. 🔸 This dessert ends of my dinner at Summerlong, which comprises of cuisine from Greece and the Mediterranean, with a focus on plant-based and seafood dishes.

Inside Scoop
Buckwheat Pancake ($19.5+) Last tried this pancake 4 years ago, when Populus just opened its door. It’s still soft and kinda fluffy but didn’t remember the pancake to be this thick and dense. Texture was more similar to banana cake than a pancake. That aside, we enjoy the refreshing berry compote and passionfruit curd lacing the top. The butter cube didn’t seem to add any flavour and you can definitely do it without the additional maple syrup on the side. Wouldn’t have been able to finish this all by myself considering how thick it is (and I got jelat after a few bites).

Roasted Cos & Soba Noodle Salad ($21.5+) Wasn’t expecting the tangy flavour profile from the noodle salad, but it was welcomed especially to complement our sweet buckwheat pancake. Roasted cod was moist inside though the crust was a tad dry but still good nonetheless. The lime & sesame dressing helps to boost our appetite with its refreshing tangy kicks. Really enjoy this dish!

Sticky Date Pudding This 'pudding' ($13) has a more cake-like texture and is surrounded by a rich pool of dulce de leche sauce, vanilla ice cream and cornflake crumb. The dulce de leche is a tad too sweet and rich for me, it's more like condensed milk. Maybe less of it would have been better. The 'pudding' itself is really nice though, I like it fluffier like this although it's a tad dry. The earthiness of the date went quite well with a simple vanilla ice cream, and the cornflake crumb definitely gives it a nice crunch.

March special - Crab Meat Scramble Croissants A good buttery croissant, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, is for me always a delightful indulgent treat. On first 3 bites, the chili oil and tomato jam gave it a pleasant “oh interesting”. Then it plateaued. While the ingredients were all plated nicely together, they felt separate. They didn’t integrate harmoniously, some texture and flavors overwhelmed the rest. Individually, the ingredients were nice but mellow. I kinda expected the flavor of the crab to be more prominent, the tomato jam stole the role though. Overall, it’s not a bad dish, just lacked an oomph. Or maybe it just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

stuffed 'n swell Being both dense AND thick ain't a problem when you're the Chocolate Stuffed ($23). These chocolate-stuffed pancakes adorned with cream cheese, oreo crumbs, berries, and vanilla bean ice cream will make anyone with a sweet tooth swoon. I didn't order this for myself, but I figured it was too fabulous (and filling) to not mention.

swim, swam, swum We're all familiar with the Spiced scrambled ($18) and Eggstraordinary eggs & snags ($24), the latter of which arrived with, uh, overcooked yolks, but there's been little talk about the Salmon, pistachio, rosti ($25). Every component of this pricey, pescatarian-friendly option was pretty much on point. What's not to like about pistachio-crusted salmon, cooked to perfection, perched atop a crisp and golden brown disc of potato rosti? Well, the watercress and rocket salad could've merely existed in all its stark rawness, if not for the uplifting citrus mint mayo. This is ideal if you want something that straddles the line in between "indulgent" and "healthy".

Southern Fried Chicken The typical southern comfort food. Crispy out, juicy&tender within. Served with coleslaw and pretty sinful, addictive gravy. Nope, i don’t wanna know what goes into the gravy!

Pulled Pork Tacos Unassuming pulled pork tacos with VERY well flavoured shredded pulled pork mixed with fresh greens and sweet corn. Also came drizzled with home made sauce that provided extra ‘juice’ with each bite. Love how the taco shell is soft in nature, without the strong dough/toughness reminiscent of pre-packed taco shells. It’s at the right level of thickness too, allowing some ‘sturdiness’ for one to hold it up for a huge bite. Also, it came with shredded cheddar - I wish there was more of this tho! So lovely ☺️

The Beast Southen Kitchen The Beast tucked at 17 Jalan Klapa offers homely South American fare. Chicken & Waffles is the bomb! The fried chicken was served on top of the waffle with bourbon maple syrup at the side which you could drizzle over and it was delicious! The chicken was crispy on the outside, moist and tender inside. The savoury fried chicken also formed a good balance with the waffle which was crispy and thick without being too dense. Every bite of it was wonderful. The portion was also beastly! Southern Fried Chicken. The skin was crisp and crunchy, the meat was tender, juicy and bursting with flavour beneath the beautifully crunchy skin. It was deep fried but definitely not overly oily. It had the really good crunch that even people like me who tends to remove the chicken skin still enjoyed those crispy edges too.
