In fact, thanks to these canteens, workers in the vicinity are in good hands. One of the more commendable dishes are the Ayam pengyet and yong tau foo. The yong tau foo ingredients are fresh with even more variety than some of those elsewhere. The laksa gravy is flavourful albeit a little watery. Can’t compare to that of the arts canteen (otherwise known as The Deck). Can you guess how much this meal costs? .

The concept is similar to a mini foodcourt where there’s a variety of food choices. The food bar in NUS Science Canteen will appeal to many. From assorted curry rice 🍛 to sinful or healthier salads 🥗 and pasta as well as the milk tea/latte bar. But of course, dining in this air con eatery means that you have to pay the price to enjoy eating in the comfort and in this sense, about double. I had the Daily Bowl which you can call it an ang moh caifan. Choose between olive rice, Spanish tomato rice or organic quinoa as the carbs. Then 5 toppings and a protein. All for $6.90. Complain about non-filling salads NO MORE.

Located next to the Sky Casino is OUG Jade, a Chinese restaurant. As part of their grand opening, there’s 12 dishes on special rates. We ordered two of them aka the steamed soon hock and the water prawn 生面. The fish is about 1.4kg (RM270), fresh and super fleshy. It’s steamed in light soy sauce and some bean sauce, parsley and ginger, then served on a ceramic plate and kept warm with fire beneath it. Just how I like my steamed fish to be. 生面 with prawns is delish too. However, the prawns were not consistent, some were crunchy whilst the others were soft hence not as fresh. The sauce isn’t too starchy and has beaten egg in them which helped helped to retain the crispness of the fried noodles. Finally, we also had the claypot brinjal with minced meat and salted fish. Think it’d have been better without the salted fish. Overall, the service wasn’t so pleasant but I’d be back surely for the food! .

So actually, The Green Door serves the same food as the Roadhouse which we had wanted to eat at. But it was full, so they directed us to the restaurant opposite where’s there plenty of tables. Their menu is supposedly a little smaller, but you can also order the food from Roadhouse over. The beer battered onion rings with garlic mayonnaise is my favourite! Those vadai lookalike rings of onions were surprisingly not too greasy and the moisture of the onions was well retained inside the crispy batter. The curry in a hurry fries is pretty similar to your McDonald’s shaker fries but the thicker cut version. Somehow the sides blew me away and we were kinda satisfied before the main courses were served. I had the Eggs Royale which I would say... average. With a bottle of Rosé, the meal cost $32 per pax for 8 persons. Quite a steal for a place like Dempsey. And we were sure stuffed! Thanks @simone.wyh for being my hand model 💋

If you miss what you had in US (in terms of the portion), Clinton is here to save your life. Other than the blueberry pancakes which seemed to be their all time favourites, their Chicken & Waffles is a big hit too! Served with maple syrup on the side, you’d think that might be the topping for the plain waffles but no! The sweet-savoury honey tobasco sauce on the fluffy buttermilk waffles is an interesting combination which makes it irresistibly sinful. But when you dip with a little maple syrup, it brings up the flavour of the buttermilk fried chicken. .

For desserts, I tried the Peanut Butter Ice Box Pie. As interesting as the name suggest, the peanut butter cream over the layer of chocolate ganache sitting atop the biscuit base, truly decadent. I’d strongly suggest to keep your stomachs for some of their sweet treats. It will be worth it! .

Was there kinda late so did not manage to eat much and coz most of the stalls don’t give chance once the clock strikes 1030pm. The only booth which entertained us was @nonentreedesserts. Unlike the usual YTF 料, it’s at the one and only YTF shop where you can indulge in deep fried tasty meatballs and juicy mushrooms. Waiting time can be horrendous but it’s totally worth it. Only downside is that they don’t dry the fried dishes again for you, but still served separate from the soupy version. .
