1-for-1 High Tea With Burpple Beyond! Brought my mum out for afternoon tea while I was off from work!!! Taste: 7/10 (This TWG pink flamingo tea - blend of green tea with crimson hibiscus blossoms - was so tart and refreshing!) Ambience: 7/10 (The servers were extremely friendly, but as the lounge started to fill up with diners, it became much harder to get help from any of the servers) Price: 8/10 (Afternoon tea set became extremely affordable after making use of the Burpple Beyond deal! Paid approximately $39 for 2)

Worst Afternoon Tea Set in a Hotel I'd like to start with the good - the staff were attentive and friendly. The ambience is nice for chilling, for relaxing afternoon with friends. That's about all the good. Now onto the bad. I wasn't expecting fanciful food at this super affordable price point, but come on Marriott you can do better than this. I can walk down to Four Leaves at taka and gather the same exact food provided in the high tea set and the quality will be 3x better than what they served. All high tea set are pre-packed and cling wrapped and kept in the fridge to be served at 2pm. Sandwiches are soggy cause of the tomatoes and cucumbers. (Btw the sandwich has cucumber in it, and nothing else?! It's literally cucumber and bread) Scones are dry. Egg tarts are too sweet. Red velvet cupcake and the macaroons are pure colourings and sugar with no other taste than overwhelmingly sweet. The best thing of it all was the twg tea hahaha. First review in burpple, because please if anyone wants to come here for the afternoon tea set (even at the discounted burpple price), you gotta reconsider. (Oh and photo is not updated, I didn't take any photos so I grabbed it off the Google image results so please don't refer to that.)

English Afternoon Tea Set ($33++). 1-for-1 with #burpplebeyond! Unwind your weekend afternoon at @singaporemarriott Lobby Lounge with their English Afternoon Tea Set for 2. For $33++, you get to savour an assortment of afternoon sandwiches, savoury pies, tea cakes, chocolate pralines, macaroons, raisin scones with strawberry jam, and unlimited servings of coffee and tea from their selection. I鈥檇 say it鈥檚 average, with hits and misses. While the lemon meringue and apple macaroon were those that stood out in that lot, the chocolate praline had strong palm fat taste and the scones were on the slightly dry side. Also, I wasn鈥檛 expecting the sandwiches to simply be filled with cucumber slices for one variant, and tomato slices for another. Perhaps they could also work on the presentation of the savoury pies. Thanks to #burpplebeyond, we enjoyed 2 English afternoon tea sets at the price of 1!

6-hands Pop-up To Celebrate International Women鈥檚 Day H O S T E D On Sunday, 8th March, three female chefs banded together to present a 6-hands menu in celebration of International Women鈥檚 Day. Held at @tonocevicheria, the dishes that Tono鈥檚 Head Chef Tamara (@tamarachavez_chef), @restaurantnouri鈥檚 Sous Chef & Head of R&D Culinary Ashlee (@ashleemalligan), and Chef-owner Petrina Loh (@pe3na) of @morselsinsingapore came up with, were every bit as spunky and vibrant as they are. To whet appetites, it was their takes on Ceviche, a Latin American marinated raw seafood specialty first. Each imbued it with her own culinary style (this was to be repeated for their respective Tacos and Main Courses that followed). So while Chef Petrina served a distinctly Southeast Asian Ceviche with a slightly 鈥渓emak鈥 Thai Tom Kha-dressed Hokkaido scallops, Chef Ashlee鈥檚 octopus and prawns in tamarillo broth boasted a clean and bright flavour profile, and Chef Tamara鈥檚 tortilla-scattered creation hit the highest level of intensity as she had tossed prawns, octopus, clams, crabmeat and avocado in the zingy citrus of 鈥淭iger鈥檚 Milk鈥. For the Tacos, different proteins were showcased, making things more interesting. Chefs Petrina and Ashlee decided to use Asian ingredients but their delicious results were a world apart. The former鈥檚 aromatic and rich Angus beef rump rendang with raita and pickled green mango was decidedly Southeast Asian, but the latter鈥檚 ventured further afield, into the South Americas actually as her Taco had lamb shoulder in an earthy buah keluak 鈥渕ole鈥 and finished with pickled jalape帽os. Roasted chicken marinated in 鈥淎chiote鈥 sauce, black beans and pickles were what Chef Tamara chose to fill hers with. Frankly, all three Tacos were stellar - yes, even the lamb, a meat I don鈥檛 usually order myself. I would have been very happy to continue inhaling more of them but there were the Main Courses to consider. These too turned out to be really enticing and well executed. There was a grilled snapper by Chef Ashlee (its texture was absolutely perfect) accompanied by amazingly done purple sweet potato and polenta fritters, salsa verde and mint. Chef @johnjohn0822 from Morsels represented Chef Petrina to explain her dish, a very juicy take on 鈥淗ar Jeong Gai鈥 (the popular fried shrimp paste chicken you find at every 鈥渮i char鈥 stall). I love how she had marinated it with Cinchalok (fermented tiny shrimp), imbuing it with funky savouriness. The final course of Arroz Con Cangrejo by Chef Tamara triggered an 鈥淥MG鈥 moment because the spicy crab meat-laced yellow rice exploded with larger-than-life flavours.

Crowd pleaser Looks like you can鈥檛 go wrong with the Winestone Signature Burger ($27++). The portion was large, the wagyu patty tender, and there was a generous serving of portobello mushroom. That might be a minus if you do not enjoy mushrooms, as the taste often overshadowed the other components of the burger.

Fancy beef bolognese Ordered the ragout tagliatelle ($25++), which turned out to be a fancy beef bolognese that still isn鈥檛 the best out there :鈥( The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce rich. However, dish felt cheap with the use of ground beef that didn鈥檛 have much bite to it. It also turned out to be jelak / fairly overwhelming about halfway through the dish. Perplexing as they are generous with the ingredients for the seafood risotto (also heavy tasting, but very much worth its price point). But worth a mention that service was good :) TL;DR you really have to love beef bolognese to enjoy this dish (which I did), but likely leave feeling cheated.

rich risotto The braised seafood risotto ($28++) was easily my favourite. The short grains had a great bite, and I was impressed with the rich seafood bisque! Every mouth was a burst of creamy flavours. The portion of seafood was extremely generous - there were crayfish, mussels, prawns and even scallops?! Each component was fresh and succulent, retaining its natural sweetness. It can get overwhelming with its strong flavours and large serving, so this is best shared. But I鈥檒l be back for this! 馃専

With a refreshed all-day ala carte menu, launched since the beginning of March, there are new creations waiting to excite diners of PORTA. Starting off with an appetizer such as the Parma Ham ($16) will help open your tastebuds as this dish tingles with your three tastes鈥 categories in sweet, salty and sour. The dish comprises of a mesclun salad with watermelon cubes that have been compressed with lime juice and lime zest and Parma ham. A little drizzle of balsamic vinegar and some Thai lime aioli by the side adds life into the dish. For the main courses, diners can choose between the Black Cod ($29) or the Venus Clams ($24), with the latter slightly edging out for me though the former is very good as well. The delicate and oily fish, coated with a pistachio and puffed rice layer, is pan-seared skin down to get a crispy exterior before finishing it in the oven and served with a baby spinach puree and edible flowers. For the pasta dish, capellini is cooked in a clam stock that contains shio kombu to give it the savouriness while the Indonesia clams brings a touch of sweetness to the overall mouthfeel. What probably is the ingenious touch is adding lots of sliced garlic and a chilli padi into the cooking to spice things up a little while sakura ebi completes the finishing garnish. 鈥⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩⑩ 馃搷PORTA 1 Unity Street, Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Level 1, Singapore 237983
