[#NewOnBlog] 5 Fruits Parfait (S$15.80) || @WatanabeCoffee Happy National Day! 🇸🇬 How are you spending this long weekend? . Created in collaboration with @Perfect_Break_Time, an upper fashion brand in Nagoya, try this soft serve - its interpretation of edible fashion. 🍦 . Indeed, apart from the beautiful presentation, I love how the soft serve offered a refreshing mix of flavours - with the generous addition of fresh strawberries🍓, kiwifruit slices🥝, orange slices🍊, soft cake, aloe vera etc. I heard that the staff even flew in from Japan to personally train Watanabe Coffee's staff on how to create this true to its original form and consistently! . Oiri Soft Serve (S$8.30) || @WatanabeCoffee . TGIF! Let's have this pretty soft serve to start the weekend! 🎉 . Originating from Kagawa Perfecture in the Southern part of Japan, these soft serves were traditionally served at wedding parties for everyone to celebrate during the joyous occasion. . This one from Watanabe Coffee, made from Hokkaido milk, was milky yet surprisingly refreshing. Also known as a "good luck soft serve", it was once said that dreams will come true after eating this oiri soft serve🍦. I think I should have this just before buying Toto. Haha! 😆 . . . . . . . . . . . ______________________________________ . . . #thehedgehogknows #watanabecoffee #oiri #softserve #goodluck #icecream #sgdessert

Bánh Bèo Xứ Quảng I’m not a usual fan of Vietnamese food as I find it a little too mild for my liking, but the Vietnamese fare at MOC Cottage is surprisingly legit and tasty! What intrigued me the most is the appetiser Bánh Bèo Xứ Quảng ($14). The steamed rice cakes with shrimp, fried shallots and scallion oil reminds me of a Vietnamese version of chwee kueh:P Pretty good with a dash of chilli sauce. Overall, MOC Cottage is quite a pleasant surprise!

Bún Thịt Nướng Chả Giò I’m not a usual fan of Vietnamese food as I find it a little too mild for my liking, but the Vietnamese fare at MOC Cottage is surprisingly legit and tasty! There is a one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond for mains and we decided to go for the Bún Chả Hà Nội (vermicelli with grilled pork belly served with warm fish sauce - $17) and Bún Thịt Nướng Chả Giò (fresh rice noodles with mixed vegetables, grilled sliced pork and fried spring rolls - $17). The sliced pork, pork belly and pork patty are flavourful, fragrant and a good match with the refreshing rice noodles. The spring roll is crispy and delicious too. Overall, MOC Cottage is quite a pleasant surprise!

Good quality tasty Vietnamese foods at a upper end side Being a Vietnamese, I have always been a bit more critical at Vietnamese foods when trying national dishes overseas. At Moc Cottage, surprisingly and pleasantly, the foods don’t disappoint me at all. We order the Hanoi style grilled fatty pork with vermicelli and the Grilled sliced pork (17++) and fried spring rolls with vermicelli (17++). The meat taste is of good quality and well seasoned (a bit stronger if you are new to fish sauce), the herb is fresh and the cook seems to put attention in the dish arrangement which clearly accentuate each component. The portion is actually bigger than it looks so that’s another plus. The high F&B price can discourage new patrons when compared with other Vietnamese restaurants. However, I definitely recommend friends to try Moc Cottage as an introduction to the cuisine. And don’t forget to make use of Burpple beyond deal.

Seasoned Gyutan Its my first time trying ox tongue, a local delicacy from Sendai in the Miyazaki prefecture (this one is from Senri)! The aburi smell was really strong and mouthwatering, and the aburi torching really gives it that oomph from the Maillard reaction. I could tell the cook on the beef was perfect. The beef itself doesn't have a super strong gamey flavor nor is it particularly juicy but it's got a distinctive chewy texture. I can see why this is an acquired taste. It comes with some spicy paste and I added an onsen egg to dip the beef into the glorious yellow yolk. It's also paired with some refreshing salad. I really liked this one and would go for a repeat order next time. This is the medium size with 150 grams of beef and cost $32. 8/10

Wagyu Hamburg Steak and Salad Set Good quality Japanese-style hamburg is hard to find but this one from the brand Fukuyoshi really ticked all the boxes. ($15) It is formulated with Hokkaido Kuroge Wagyu and is so delicate and tender it just barely holds together. The patty cuts open with the press of a fork. It is super juicy too, I can literally see the juices flowing out as I cut past that beautifully caramelized crust. I only wish it was seasoned a teeny weeny bit more, as I relied more on the accompanying sauce for flavor. It's served with great flair on a black ceramic plate with some crispy potato wedges and salad. 8/10

Karamasa Kaarage (4pcs) This is from the brand Karamasa, specializing in Kaarage, deep fried chicken. This is honestly a steal at $7.50 for four humongous chunks of chicken (I'm talking about the size of my palm kind of big), served with a salad. It tasted so authentic. The batter used was potato starch based, and just coats the huge piece of chicken evenly. (No huge chunks of flour or batter here!) The batter wasn't soggy and there was a perfect chicken to batter ratio. The chicken was deep-fried to a crispy perfection and yet still retained its tenderness and juiciness. There's an audible crunch when I bit into it, and I could actually taste the chicken juices erupt out of it. It comes with some sweet dipping sauce, but I would order the tartar version next time because I think this slightly underseasoned chicken needs the heaviness and richness of the tartar sauce. But still, this plate is honestly holds one of the most delicious and most value-for-money karaages around. 9.5/10
