Possibly the best croissant i ate this year!

People come to Bacha for their 10297472 different selection of coffee. I am no coffee connoisseur so i came to experience high SES life.

What pleasantly surprised me was how good their food were. The croissants were buttery, fluffy, crispy, flaky and then some.
The savoury food were also done really well, though i must point out that the price is on the high side and portion is small. Cakes were decadent and would be a great pairing with the black coffee.

For coffee, they recommended yemen and i wasn't impressed. I am not a fan of coffee that had sour notes, and prefer one that was smooth and had subtle sweetness. But again, i am no connoisseur.

I grew up eating Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee and it will always have a special place in my heart. I often say that if I ate their lor mee as the last meal of my life, I would die a happy man.

However, what I disliked was the 1 hour+ queue at Old Airport Road Hawker, and that it was often sold out before 1pm. So, I was really happy when Mr food king @ryanxgo partnered with the stall owners to expand, making it more accessible for everyone to have a taste of this food king good lor mee!

What makes or breaks a lor mee is its gravy, as it needs to balance all the strong flavours โ€“ the vinegar, sambal, chilli padi, coriander, garlic etc. @xmxlormee gravy had always achieved this consistently well, accentuating the flavours where required. What also sets them apart is the hand-peeled fish flakes and a bowl choked full of different things to eat.

I think the quality at Balestier is at 75%-80% of the level at the OG stall. It retains most of good stuff, but just lacks that little bit of oomph that I believe comes from the heart and soul of the uncles and aunties operating from a hawker stall since 1973.

Donโ€™t get me wrong, it is still a satisfying bowl and I would definitely be back. However, if it was the last meal of my life, I think I would queue at the OG stall.

For charcoal grill yakiniku with great vibes.

Their specialty is Ox Tongue with Spring Onion. When cooked over charcoal fire, the charred spring onion really complemented the ox tongue.

The raw beef was also excellent and well marinated. It was the first plate to be wiped clean.

They also offer an assortment of meat and marinate to choose from, all of which were of good quality and had distinct taste.

Though it may be pricey, you will be assured of good quality meat and great vibes.

The term "Instagrammable Cafe" almost feels like a backhanded compliment, where it may be implied that the food quality can't match up to its aesthetics. Cafe De Nicole's Flower managed to dispel any of that notion by serving pretty food that taste pretty decent in a pretty setting.

The Souffle Pancake was egg-cellent. It was eggy and fluffy and in my opinion one of the best souffle pancake around!

They also serve an interesting menu of drinks, including the Uji Matcha and Sweet Potato Latte which i thought was pretty nice. The soy milk really brought the best out of the sweet potato and bitter matcha notes.

For the others, i would rate the smoked salmon croissant as above average and the tart as below average.

The presentation was also on point. By adding fresh or dried flowers, it really elevated the overall aesthetics.

This cafe (popular to begin with) blew up after Food King featured it with 3 stars. Had to wait 30mins at 4.30pm on a Sat.

The laksa pasta was very lemak. I always appreciate an elevated version of local food and this was certainly fusion done right. We need to be proud of our local food!

Stout glazed bacon was ok, not mindblowing but will be satisfying to the sweet tooth.

Mvp: The rosti though... crispy on the outside with a firm yet soft bite on the inside. It does not feel greasy or oily and leaves you wanting for more. How did they make plain ol' potato so a-peel-ing?

Would you pay x4 the price of what you can get at hawker? I would, but i know many who wouldnt.

BCM Capellini is a fusion take on ba chor mee with campellini replacing your meepok. It has everything you want from a BCM, the good dash of vinegar (warning if you dont like vinegar) with fiery sambal.

Chendol Deutsch Skillet Pancakes was eggy and fluffy, i can't explain why but it wasn't in a delightful way. It was jelak and i didnt really enjoy it.

Mvp: Hainanese chicken roulade and foie gras - ok i get it, it is a really expensive plate of chicken rice, but it is also a really good one. Individually they are all amazing. Plump yet tender chicken, fluffy and tasty rice that can be eaten on its own and chilli that pack a punch. Add in the complex flavour of foie gras (my fav!) and you get a wholesome meal on its own.

Overall i enjoyed the experience and would come back again to try their other refreshing take on local delights!

Overall pretty standard brunch fare. To be fair, i came here for the pancakes and they were sold out that day.

MVP: Ondeh Ondeh Cake. Wow. It is rich and creamy at the right spot. Soft as a baby's bottom. The main part of the cake cuts through the sweetness to ensure it is not surfeiting. MVP๐Ÿฅš: 9/10
