This has been one of our favourite places for brunch until recently. With their menu largely unchanged, we were dismayed that the taste and how some of them were prepared were obviously different. First indication was the Affogato that we always loved to order on every visit. Missing were the crunchy nuts that distincted theirs from others. The Affogato was still good but less the X-factor. Their crispy crab cake was a major letdown, being our all-time favourite from this place. Crab cake itself was still delicious; but not everything else on the plate. The egg, bacon, avocado bread were poorly prepared. The little amount of crispy chips and salad sprinkled around the plate was miserable and no longer made sense. Also from their breakfast platter it was visible that standard in preparation of their food had dropped. Whatever the reason was, hope it’ll improve while we’ll not be returning for sometime.

this place is honestly like a hidden gem, wld never have known of its existence if we didn’t walk past it. this French Toast (S$12.90) is no ordinary one bc it’s HUGE. two thick slices of buttery and soft brioche buns made more decadent after being soaked in its eggy mixture, cooked and drizzled generously with maple syrup. i love how they layered cheese between the two slices of brioche, for alsome saltiness to cut thru the richness of the brioche itself. they were also topped with tomatoes and avocado + a serving of creamy scrambled eggs in the side.

Smoked Salmon Rosti Enjoy the food and ambiance here! I was quite surprise when I found out that there is a cafe that is only a short walking distance from Lavender, probably less than 5 minutes? The Rosti I had was decent, crispy and tasty. Saltiness of the smoked salmon complimented the rosti, I enjoy this combination. — Nearest MRT: Lavender

Wagyu Beef Don 4⭐ Craving for egg benedict and found this cafe in burpple app which serves egg benedict. Moreover there's 1 for 1 in the burpple app and furthermore there's 35% booster cashback this week. The egg benedict is on point but I was served the bacon instead of salmon which I have ordered. They took back the dish and served the correct order. WB ordered mushroom bacon aglio olio which is spicy for me but he loves it. @pinky_kitty_snow ordered the wagyu beef don which is not bad but Waa Cow has set the bar too high. After the 1 for 1 and 35% booster, a main and a drink cost about $7 which is a steal. #Oberstrasse #BennysEgg #MushroomBaconAglioOlio #WagyuBeefDon #Cappuccino #CinnamonChaiLatte

Muroran Yakitori ($3.90) 4 month old Amazing Hokkaido is located along the cooling stretch of Robertson Quay. Their interior consists of fishing nets and Japanese lanterns which immerses you into your own Japan experience. One of their top 10 popular dishes are the Muroran Yakitori, which is tender pork skewers partitioned by sweet onions. Each skewer is grilled upon order and comes with a teriyaki glaze. The pork pieces are extremely soft & juicy & melts almost instantly! It's no wonder why they made it to the number 1 spot for their popular dishes.

Tomorrow’s the last day this brunch menu will be ran, and I highly recommend you make a trip down — if not for their always stellar food, then for this sexy Heritage Eggs ($19). If you’ve been to any of their previous establishments (The Humble Loaf/Gastrosmiths), you’d be able to trace the origins of this dish. Here we’ve got perfectly poached eggs seated above some tender spinach, then smothered in a luscious blanket of pickled shallot beurre blanc tszujed up with some jamon serrano and olives. Quite the mouthful, but take a bite and man it’s an utter fireworks of flavours. I love the acidity brought across by the pickled shallots and olives! It gave the creamy beurre blanc a fantastic brightness that works fabulously with the rich molten yolks and nutty house-baked multigrain bread.

“Heritage Eggs” ($19 nett) Eggporn is at its yummiest when the perfectly poached eggs are smothered in a lip-smacking sauce. Like this delectable version at @allium.sg (thanks Chef Dillon for letting us have a taste). We had gone there for brunch and were busy enjoying our orders of “Muffaletta” Sandwich ($22 nett) and “Hainanese Sweet & Sour Pork Loin” ($26 nett) when we were surprised by a serving of this “Heritage Eggs” ($19 nett). Covered in diced Jamon Serrano, a very appetising pickled shallot beurre blanc, and accompanied by sautéed spinach and finely chopped chives, this was a wonderfully rich, savoury and absolutely delicious dish. On the side was housemade bread to make sure we could mop up every bit of that eggy goodness.

For Vegan Options and Brunch in the North This intimate 16-seater spot in Upper Serangoon is perfect for vegans and vegetarians. Helmed by the folks behind The Humble Loaf and Gastrosmiths, expect tasty and comforting food. Have the saffron-infused Fenugreek White Wine Curry ($20) or the Heritage Eggs ($19) served with lovely bread thick, garlicky pickled shallot beurre blanc and sautéed spinach. Salt Overloaded Salt Overloaded!!!!!!!! Cacio E Pepe (S$24++) Available at @caffecicheti in @southbeachavenuesg The pasta was way too salty and I could not take in anymore after a couple of mouthful. The staff took it away after I told him the reason. He asked if I wanted another dish which I replied Grilled Cheese (S$19++). The latter dish was much better. But I was shocked when I was billed in full for both dishes. Why should I be billed for full especially for the first dish? The staff replied that the dish was served, that’s why. The staff replied that he would talk to the manager and returned with a slightly discount for the first dish which now billed for S$16++. I paid for the meal unhappily as too much time had wasted. By the way the bill was taking forever to come. Bad Experience!

Duck Ragu Tortiglioni ($26++) I truly can have a good plate of pasta every day. Visited Caffe Cicheti recently for the first time since it was rebranded from Fynn’s. Focusing on Italian cuisine while featuring Antipodean brunch favourites from its past, this is a quality, decently priced option for Italian food. The duck ragu tortiglioni was hearty and meaty. Tortiglioni is larger in width than rigatoni and features vertical ridges. The duck ragu sauce didn’t disappoint and was packed with flavour. Plus there were copious chunks of soft and tender duck meat. Red wine is added into the meat sauce during the cooking process. The presence of red wine being added into the cooking process also helps to bring out a robust flavour. The presence of torched cheese was a nice touch to have and certainly wouldn’t mind if they gave me more cheese. The food here lives up to the quality of the Cicheti restaurants and do consider coming here if you’re in the vicinity.

Soft Savoury Cute Baos Too many baos I had a hard time deciding, but was rly pleased with my trio - Salted Egg Chicken, Chilli Crab Fried Mantou n Blackened Chicken Bao. Surprisingly like the Blackened Chicken the most bcos of the soft sesame bun, grilled chicken that wasn’t bitter like how I expected n the house blend garlic mayo. Slurps!!! 😋 +$2 during dinner for the Triple Bao Set so I skipped it cos who cares for the salad anw hahahaa

Chill Crab & Salted Egg Chicken Bao, Salmon Mentaiko Roll & Teriyaki Beef Steak Rice Bowl Starting off with the signature baos, we really enjoyed the Chilli Crab Bao. Mixed with the chilli crab chunks, the chilli crab sauce was done really well, and the mantou was perfectly deep fried. The Salted Egg Chicken Bao was served with a steamed bun instead and wasn’t nearly as impressive. The downside was that the portions were quite tiny. We were pleasantly surprised that aside from the baos, the Salmon Mentaiko Roll & Teriyaka Beef Steak Rice Bowl were pretty tasty. On the side note, I loved the minimalist interiors! Overall, the quality of the food was decent but prices are steep. If anything, I would return for the baos.
