Been wanting to pay a visit to XYT since I heard of it some years back. The DIY retro posters outside the restaurant already give you a glimpse of what to expect. Step in and you're greeted by colorful decorations that will remind you of Singapore's yesteryears. Open kitchen at the back gave a high class tze char feel. Truffle duck is not bad but too much for 2. Otak rolls must order. Cocktails were 2 for $20 when we went, and trust me it's value for money. Ordered Opium and XYT cocktails and I was not disappointed at all.

Tze Char in the city. It's been so long since I've travelled to Far East Plaza for a meal. Came here cos they have salted egg pork ribs. Verdict: IMO honestly over-hyped cos the salted egg and the meat tastes 'separately' (how else to describe an unharmonious dish?). However Har Cheong Kai is good, not too overwhelming. Sambal Kang Kong has no kick. Perhaps their trademark is go easy on the taste?!

A hidden Japanese ramen gem in Holland Village, this ramen restaurant serves duck ramen in soup or Tsuke (dipping). My order of Tsukemen was a 8/10 for me. Love the thick broth that goes really well with the noodles. Not forgetting the tasty gyoza served before the main. They even make their own soda! Good service can be expected from this quaint little place, a few doors away from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

Have been longing for a good bowl of chirashi don for a week, and I'm glad I've come to Tanuki Raw. Frankly the menu is a little overwhelming, and I went with my gut feel, Ie. Fresh Sashimi-loaded Donburi, TANUKI KAISEN CHIRASHI. I was a happy girl after this satisfying bowl, especially that the rice portion here doesn't overwhelm the sashimi. Definitely a good choice for Japanese food at the Somerset area.

To appease a visiting friend on a hunt for good chendol we went to Old Amoy Chendol
Definitely good ol' chendol served with integrity. For the same price you would pay at a food court for a mountain of shaved ice, you get full value of real chendol topped with red beans, gula melaka, coconut essence. Green chendol jelly is handmade so yes, it's worth it !

阿2老火汤, or Ah Er Soup, one of the street food that made it to the 2017 Michelin Bibgourmand list. Ordered a 胡椒猪肚汤($4.50), and I'm happy that it didn't disappoint, though the presentation is less attractive than the Michelin recommended 极品佛跳墙 ($6.50) my preggy friend ordered. Soup contains no msg. Most customers would order the pumpkin rice ($0.80), which I curiously follow suit. Definitely taste better than white rice. Queue at 12pm is manageable.

Koji Sushi Bar at Pickering Street serves Omakase (order in advance) and a la carte menu such as Donburi sashimi and sushi. Space is tight, so you eat at the counter around the kitchen. Friendly staff and though you don't get a huge selection, the sashimi is rather fresh, not frozen hard raw meat. Rather pleased with my beef tartare donburi, and sweetprawn. Good for dates and girlfriends
