Inside Scoop
Avocado Superfood Green platter Kale, Charted broccoli, spinach, pumpkin seeds, mixed grains, puffed wild rice, avocado on multigrain bread (switches poached egg to fried egg, and no cheese) The price is fairly justified by the huge portion. The refreshing salad goes perfectly with the avocado toast.

Top Brunch And Coffee In SG! I love coming here with a few girlfriends. Casual but chic. Amazing coffee. And their signature Populus Scramble (S$19) will be all you think about for days.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Made with super soft and creamy scrambled eggs, a fresh herb mix, feta and bacon, this loaded croissant will make you feel things you’ve never felt before. It’s like a hug in your belly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I usually get something sweet as well because it’s not quite filling enough for me. If you’re the same, I strongly advise you order the French Toast. Huge pieces of brioche with butter rum bananas and pistachios. It’s the French Toast you never knew you always needed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨: super cute brunch spot. Recommend for a big group brunch or double date brunch kind of thing. Definitely more of a breakfast/morning place - wouldn’t come here for dinner⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🛎: standard service ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☕️: GREAT coffee⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍴: indulge with this “Populus Scramble”. Or go healthy with any of their delicious grain bowls! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🥗: vegetarian options - I love their superfood bowl. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧁: butter rum banana French toast. Or sticky date pudding. Or both.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💰: $$ - definitely on the pricier side⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❗️: reservation optional on weekdays, 100% need on weekends ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⏱: Mon: 9am-7pm, Tues: 9am-4pm, Wed-Fri: 9am-10:30pm, sat: 9:30am-10:30pm, sun: 9:30am-7pm⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📍: 146 Neil Road ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸: @thepopuluscafe (I have actually eaten her >5 times and ordered/LOVED this dish - but my pics can’t compete with this lol)

Cod & Leek ($24) I was surprised at the generous portion of this dish. There was 2 thick slabs of fish stacked on a big dollop of creamy potatoes. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This dish is a real value for money!

Uni Tart Is Not As Yummy As Uni Pudding @ Lolla Restaurant The best way to experience the massive Chef Nocente’s equally-enormous creativity is to order à la carte (especially starters and small plates). It is more expensive that way (and this is a pricey place, borderline on outrageous, unless you go for the set lunches), but worth it! The uni and caviar kueh pie tee ($12++), tripes ($16++), boudin arancini ($3++), quail ($24++), Mac and 3 cheeses ($18++), and kangaroo ($25++), are all scrumptious. The signature Grouper ($58++) can be given a miss. Good wine list. Friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive wait staff.

The Ultimate Prawn Noodles, with Langoustine. This to me was the ultimate prawn noodles, on many levels - the broth, the crustacean (Langoustine), the meat (Iberico Pork Jowl); and the noodles (Japanese Somen). 🔸 The broth was first fried with lots of prawn heads, under high intense heat, then mixed with the pork bone broth and cooked with szechuan chilli, fresh chilli, onions and belachan, so it's spicy and very prawny. 🔸 And the langoustine, an ingredient that just screams luxury, more usually found at Fine-dining restaurants. Longqing uses wild-caught Mozambique Langoustine, whch is more tender, and has a stronger crustacean flavour. 🔸 Longqing don't sell it on its own. But here's how to make a few bowls of these when you have steamboat there: 1. Order the spiced prawn soup as the steamboat base ($17). 2. Get the Langoustine ($9.80 each, min two pieces per order). 3. Cook some Iberico Pork Collar ($30), or Iberico Pork Jowl ($18), or just standard pork collar ($12); 4. Have it with Tang-O pictured ($7.80), or other vegetables ($5.80 onwards). 5. Choose your noodles ($1.50 onwards, Japanese Somen pictured). 🔸 This way, besides a hearty steamboat meal with friends and family, you get this bowl of awesome prawn noodles too. 🔸 Thanks owner @bigj_james for the treat! 🔸 #fujixh1 #fujifilm #burpple #foodporn #sgfoodies #sgfood #foodsg #instasg #instafood_sg #hungrygowhere #sgfoodblogger #sgig #cafehoppingsg #thedailybite #makan #burpplesg #stfoodtrending #jiaklocal #uncagestreetfood #prawnmee #noodles #prawnnoodles #seafood #sghawker #flatlaysg #singapore #visitsingapore #singaporefood #langoustine

Premium Soup Base. I visit other steamboat places regularly too, including Hai Di Lao monthly which is near my home. But I feel Longqing serves the best soup base, including their mala which has a more complex herbiness to it compared to the more single-dimensional mala at HDL (which I felt was just spicy). 🔸 Being a friend of Longqing's owner James, @bigj_james, I've also tried all other soup base they serve - lotus root and lily bulb, pork bone clear broth, tomato soup, wild mushroom, and shark's fin melon herbal soup, and I found them to be thick and deep in flavours, and has none of the artificial flavourings. 🔸 I also found they have several gems that you should order - Japanese flying squid ($16), handmade pork balls and fish paste ($12), and pig stomach ($9), just to name a few of my favourites. 🔸 #foodphotography #fujixt2 #exploresingapore #burpple #singaporeinsiders #eatoutsg #foodiegram #sgfood #foodsg #instasg #foodstagram #instafood #instafood_sg #hungrygowhere #cafesg #foodgasm #sgfoodblogger #vscofood #sgig #greatttimess #stfoodtrending #spicelover #steamboat #海鲜 #spicyfood #eeeeeats #wheretoeatsg #hotpot #wagyu #chinesesoup

For Hotpot Date Nights Jot this classy steamboat place down for your next snazzy date night. Choose from their selection of au naturale soup bases — we recommend the Wild Mushroom ($17) and Spicy Ma La ($17). Great for dousing in broths are the Handmade Fish Paste ($12), Handmade Prawn Paste ($14), the tender Premium U.S. Short Rib ($22) and the addictive Crispy Beancurd Skin Roll ($6.80). Wash it down with their herbal tea specially imported from China. Photo by Burppler Mushy Munching

Caesar ✂️ Salad at an astronomical price $23.50++ ?!?! Other than the extraordinarily expensive price tag, the salad could not be anymore ordinary. Ordinary lettuce (no upgrade to the slightly more expensive spinach counterpart) and processed bacon bits resembling the sort you could buy off the shelves in the supermarket and sprinkle on any dish you wish. Def doesn’t taste of anything specially made “in-house”. I guess the only extra effort was the poached egg 🥚 (instead of hard boiled) and in-house salad dressing which was incredibly thick and viscous - somewhat the consistency of tartar sauce and therefore, helps with portion control (I asked for it to be served by the side, instead of having it mixed altogether). The dressing was pretty addictive - I can’t quite put a name to it. Taste wise, it resembled thousand island but slightly modified with their in-house recipe. Also, the baked croutons were worthy of a mention too. They came in large pieces, baked till crisp! Of course, given the astronomical price tag, the parmesan came thinly sliced, with some shavings here and there, instead of powdered.

Grilled Cheese Toasties Grilled Cheese Toasties (~$12): I usually question ordering smth I could make at home but... please order this 🥪 There was crispy grilled cheese on both the top and base of the sandwich, and chewy stretchy cheese between. It was a mindblowing cheese toastie by itself, but even better when paired with thick tangy tomato soup ... I’m in luv😍 . Ig @goodfomood

Amazing Mango And Banana Crumble Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite cake in the world is ps cafe's chocolate blackout. Hence, it was with apprehension that I ordered this Mango and Banana Crumble. Thank God I did, for I was rewarded with the best crumble I've ever had. Warm crumbly buttery crust accompanied by the a goey centre of thai honey mangoes and banana, it was a bite as comforting as ab embrace. I loved the way the tropical fruity flavor was mellowed just slightly by the caramalization process, yet still sufficient to balance the sinfully-buttery flavor of the dough and crust. And have I mentioned that basic-by-now yet all so satisfying scoop of vanilla bean ice cream? I have no words.

Fish, Pork And Beef Hot Pot For 2 Pax (~$45 after GST) Ordered the tomato and collagen soup which were alright, though the spread is rather generous (especially the vegetables). The tomato broth was appetizing and the collagen soup was simple, while the meat quality was decent. Hand pulled noodles were a little thick but the texture was springy. Drinks were free flow with $0.60 top up, while you had to pay $1.10 per pax for condiments as we dined over the weekend.

Dontcha Wish Your Pot Was Hot Like Me Hotpot’s been around for donkey years, but it’s enjoyed a renaissance in recent years for some odd reason. With hundreds of hotpot joints blossoming up all over the country, and with stalwarts like Hai Di Lao & Beauty In A Pot, it really is becoming an oversaturated market. However, Shi Li Fang’s claim to fame is that it’s the cheapest(?) hotpot place around. And I might actually be inclined to agree here, as the spread that’s pictured here plus more on the side set my buddy and I back about fifty bucks. Not bad considering that we’re two big eaters and we got some of those tasty, tasty premium meats. The mala hotpot is as you’d expect; hot, peppery and guaranteed to make you sweat. The collagen chicken broth, on the other hand, was simply stellar. Wobbly collagen chunks are slowly melted down with wolfberries to form a deliriously delicious and wonderfully wholesome broth that’s thicker than Christina Hendricks. It’s so good that I didn’t really want to cook anything in it, instead longing to just pour it all down into my stomach. Their meats and other offerings are decent, but nothing particularly outstanding. Their premium pork slices were quality stuff, and the beef was a beauty to behold. Seafood was super fresh and there’s really nothing to complain about. It’s certainly good eating at a good price, so round up the gang to bang this hottie of a pottie.

3⭐ Average hotpot but cant haim for the price $9.90. I have been keeping count of the steamboat affair with WB cos I promise him one steamboat every quarter, but this is the 5th steamboat we had this year. 🙄 WB rated this 5/5 cos as long as it's steamboat. 🤦 #ShiLiFang #Hotpot #Burpple
