Lechon Sisig @ $16 Returned again to Don Lechon, my favourite Lechon store in SG. Always wanted to try the Lechon Sisig, but scared it will be too much for me. Served in a hot plate, with chopped bits of lechon with chillies, lime, egg, onions etc etc. The first few mouthful were very good. But started to get a bit too greased out for me and was struggling to finish this. Best to eat in a group to share.

Chopped Lechon ($23/42, 1/2 or 1 Kg), Milkfish Sinigang ($14) Only after working for 3 years around the area we find ourselves having this lip-smacking Filipino pork belly. I guess never too late? Some might prefer the Chinese crackling skin against the flat crunchy skin of Lechon but the pork meat was absolutely delicious. An order of the Milkfish Sinigang helps balance the meat galore with a tangy stew; also the milkfish is soft but I suggest avoiding the skin that reminds you of the fish’s life form in a stale water body.

Decent Milk Tea Was really hyped to try their milk tea but we ended up slightly disappointed by the relatively mild flavour profile and lack of tea taste - my partner commented that it tasted more like milk than milk tea. We had the Yorkshire Milk Tea and the Lapsang Souchong Milk Tea - we both preferred the Lapsang Souchong milk tea as it had a unique flavour, compared to the Yorkshire milk tea that just tasted like mild flavoured milk. We will still be back using Burpple’s 1 for 1, but without a deal I would hesitate to purchase it again as I prefer stronger milk tea flavours.

For 1-for-1 Beverage (save ~$6.20) Hanging out at Haji Lane? Grab a refreshing drink at this brightly adorned bubble tea store for a mid-day pick-me-up. Expect unique flavours like the Yorkshire Milk Tea ($4.90), derived from a fragrant black tea base. The smoky Lapsang Souchong Milk Tea ($4.90) is another Burpple community winner. Good Thai Food We had the green curry and garlic pork and both portions were reasonable. With the burpple 1-1, it was of really good value. No GST & service charge here so the final bill comes out really affordable. The food was delicious and would recommend.

Green Curry Chicken $10. Also felt like the portion was a bit small given the price but gotta say it was definitely one of the better green curries I’ve eaten (taste wise). Appreciate that they put in the brinjal and a substantial amount of chicken and basil!

Salty Beancurd Imagine savoury tau huay in a light soya sauce with bits of salted vegetable. Hardly see it available here so was pleasantly surprised to find this dish. Super tasty despite feeling healthy, and something you can have with no guilt.

Pork Belly $15 The picture speaks for itself. A dream come true for all you fans of pork belly out there. The fats are legit melt-in-your-mouth and skin was gelatinous and bouncy. Made up for the meaty part which was a bit tough. Sauce is pretty sweet - something I guess some of us may not be used to. Special, and something I'd recommend off the menu.

Fried Nian Gao I have to say that I felt like I was transported back to those days where I was still living in Shanghai when I took a bite of the nian gao. For those who are wondering what Shanghaiese cuisine constitutes, do make a trip there. You will be surprised that it's more than just xiao long bao.

Pan-seared Salmon $15.9 Well-cooked, with crispy skin to boot, served with some pretty tasty peppers and buttered baby potatoes. I would however, switch out the Hollandaise for a more acidic sauce to balance out the fattiness of the salmon. Thanks to @burpple for the invite and @geaks_by_sekfan for hosting! Taste: 3/5

Lamb Shank $27.9 Basic fare done right – 300g of tender, well-seasoned meat on a bed of hearty mashed potatoes. A carnivore couldn’t ask for more really. Thanks to @burpple for the invite and @geaks_by_sekfan for hosting! Taste: 3.5/5

Wagyu $35 Get your hands on some off-menu Wagyu ribeye before it’s gone at Geaks. The rich and flavourful Wagyu doesn’t need the hollandaise sauce at all, but please give me more of that delicious chunky potato mash. Thanks to @burpple for the invite and @geaks_by_sekfan for hosting! Taste: 3/5

Zeppin Burger 🍔 Zeppin Burger 📍Bizen Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse (@bizensteakhouse) 📌 Plaza Singapura 💰 $24.50 Was pretty surprised at the dine-in flow of Bizen as I had to order at the counter and make payment first before even being seated. Ngl I kinda prefer it that way, stops dine and dash incidents too. The best part was that the price reflected on the menu was the nett price, so I didn’t have to do the math 😀 The patty within the burger was tender and beefy, while the egg and bacon added that extra oomph to the dish. Generally a pretty solid burger though it wasn’t anything outstanding, fries were really crispy though! ⭐ Rating: 8.2/10 🤑 worth the price: alright 🦖 would I buy again: maybe 💍 would I marry: maybe

Tamari Glaze Chicken $11.90 nett Juicy chicken thigh with crisp skin but a little salty. The wakame udon was simple but satisfying. It resembled thick ramen more than udon. Broccoli side was normal. Order & pay thru the QR code so you can walk off right after eating

Well breaded and fried without being too oily Good value, this restaurant is a sister brand of astons. Plenty of seats on a sunday afternoon, with nice natural light. Meat patty (not pictured) was huge without batter being too thick

Thai Ruk Thai Thai Wanton Mee ($4) Fried Wantons ($3). The mee was tossed in pork lard and fish sauce which explained why it was so fragrant. The char siew seemed to be fattier at Thai Ruk Thai which had a higher fat to lean meat ratio. The fried wantons were really crispy and packed with a substantial amount of pork filling too.

Thai Wanton Mee ($4) Another Thai wanton mee stall hits Ang Mo Kio! I like the springiness of the noodles, but they're unfortunately a little bland and lacking in lard fragrance. The wantons are crispy but small and mild-tasting. The char siew is pretty good though - it has a sweet exterior and a tender bite. Overall, this stall can afford to produce wanton mee with punchier flavours, so I'd say that Soi 19's still fared better.

Wanton Mee with Shredded Abalone ($12) I went on a saturday lunchtime and queue moves relatively quick. The noodles were slightly tough for me. The items in the bowl were all cold. The char siew was nice and had a good mix of lean and fat meat. Topup $5 and you get a generous portion of abalone. The black sauce doesnt make the noodles too salty or oily. They serve a small bowl of hot soup with 2 wantons. The wanton had meat, shrimp, black fungus and corriander. The soup tasted peppery.

Wanton Mee I guess it's extremely difficult to be mindblown by a same thing. This felt really premium the first time, and although still good, this time I ate it up casually.

Wanton Noodles At Jackson’s Place. Supposedly listed in 2019’s Michelin Guide. There was no queue. $6 for the regular portion. The noodle is cooked al dente, nice and crunchy. The wonton is shaped like a ball, sufficient ingredient, tasted ok. The char siew looks good with a good mix of lean & fats, however the meat is just too dry and hard to eat. There’s generous amount of lard, nice and fragrant. Still worth a try.

Worth trying! Duck Confit Taglatelle - Smells amazing, and looks enticing! Tastes nice, though I personally prefer a stronger seasoning flavour when it comes to duck. The more I ate it, the more I enjoyed it though😄
