Chope is featuring Unagi as the dish for the month of May! We got to try the Unagi Gozen at @unagiyaichinoji which comes with unagi chawanmunshi, pickled vegetables, bean sprouts and soup. Greeted with a warm smile by the staff, the restaurant boasts a cozy space with warm lighting that’s great for group gatherings and date nights. The eel’s skin was a little crispy and the char on it was perfect. Best part is that it didn’t compromise the tenderness of the eel. There are also seats in front of the cooking station where you could see the unagi being grilled to satisfaction. Really enjoyed the experience there as a customer and we would be back again for their Hitsumabushi! #ChopeSG #DishOfTheMonth
Unagi Hitsumabushi [L] ($38.80). I opted for the large set because why not? The eel was unbelievably soft and tender while the skin was slightly crisp and that is due to the Kanto style of cooking i.e. “the eel is first grilled, then steamed for 15 mins, and then grilled again before serving.” (As mentioned by @ieatishootipost). This definitely hit the spot after an evening jog!
