A little café nestled in the midst of hdb blocks that captured our hearts. Run by sisters and they serve homely Indonesian food. We had the Ayam Bakar (grilled chicken) and Traditional Oxtail Soup ($16.50). The oxtail soup was light and oxtail was really tender. Their cabe ijo paired well with the meat too.
Their rendition of the Ayam Bakar ($12.50) was interesting - think the chicken was coated with a kecap manis and fried garlic sauce? A little sweet but definitely value for money. It came with rice sprinkled with fried shallots and garlic, keropok, belinjau crackers, egg, tahu and a comforting bowl of chicken soup. Will be back to try their fried oxtail - apparently their most popular dish!

Nestled in a HDB estate (just in front of the famous ABC Brickswork Hawker Centre), Carrara was a surprise gem! They offer a pretty decent variety of brunch, pasta and mains even though they are predominantly a gelato cafe? Pictured is the Salted Yolk Chicken Waffles - the waffles were great, the salted yolk sauce was okay. Chicken tasted like the ready made ones from Tay's. The wedges and salad were pretty good. Overall, good meal for the price as there was 1 for 1 using Burpple Beyond! Will head back for their ice cream waffles. It was packed when we visited on a Saturday night, so be prepared to wait as it is a cozy little cafe!

Finally made a trip down to Little India to try this much raved about rice bowls!

We got the mala pork collar ($10) and the sweet and spicy pork belly bowl ($10), and added on the onsen egg ($1.50). Definitely value for money, especially when it is 1 for 1 with burpple beyond! We paid a total of $13 for these two absolutely delish bowls. Meat serving was generous, rice was good quality. Definitely a good bargain, and will definitely visit again to try the other options if I am around the area.

We were pleasantly surprised with Matchaya for 2 reasons:
1. They actually serve meals now
2. The dishes are pretty good!

We got the breakfast set ($17.90) and the beef shortrib rice ($16.90). Both were decent for the price (but if you have the Entertainer, it is 1 for 1!). For the beef shortrib rice, the stew was yummy (could taste tomatoes and carrots in there), and the garlic chips added a nice texture to the beef. Beef could be a little more tender though. But otherwise, pretty decent.

For the breakfast set, the scrambled eggs were creamy and what's unique is that i tasted some tea leaves in the furikake topping? Mushrooms were fantastic and the bread was good too.

Fuss-free mala that you can eat on the go! Loved the lobster roe ball and the beancurd skin roll. I also liked how you can add on as much fried soya beans, chilli powder and spring onions as you want. Worth a try if you are at Jewel.

As i stay near, decided to check out Haruyuki. Surprisingly quiet on a Friday night even though they are on Burpple Beyond. Feel that they deserve more hype as their rice bowls are pretty good. Tried their Wagyu Foie Gras Bowl ($22.90) and Chirashi Bowl ($18.90). 1-for-1 with Beyond! Meat portion was decent and the beef was tender. The sashimi slices for the Chirashi were thick! They don't skimp on the ingredients even though the bowls were 1 for 1. Fantastic service (waitress was very attentive and kept refilling our ocha). Will definitely return, and hopefully more people check them out!

Went back another day to try their prawn mee. It is different from your usual - I tasted hei gor (prawn paste - the one used in rojak) in it, which made the soup super gao. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste at first, but too much of it made it kinda jelak. A nice twist nonetheless :)

The Nasi Lemak ($5.90) tastes as good as it looks. I highly recommend their rendang chicken! Sambal was also decent and portion was pretty substantial for the price. Worth a try.

Pretty good high tea set. A good balance of savoury and sweet items. Also comes with tea or coffee and scones (not pictured). Scones are awesome. Each set serves 2 and costs $38.

Location is a bit ulu, but if you are willing to travel, you will be rewarded with this bowl of fantastic curry and more! Loved the charcoal youtiao, and curry us great with a piping hot bowl of rice. Their garlic shoots, chilli crab tofu and fried pork are good as well. No complaints!

Chicken meat was tender. The garlic hits you on first bite of the rice, but unfortunately, it failed to make an impact with subsequent mouthfuls. It lacked flavour of other spices, ginger and chicken. Soup was flavourful, albeit a little salty. The chilli sauce was unique though - seems to be a mixture of sweet bean sauce, ginger and green cut chilli.
