A surprising sudden announcement yesterday that they had closed their main outlet at Hillview. Such a pity b’cos it was our only go-to outlet where the standards were good and consistent. Also enjoyed the laid-back surrounding with the greens beside the carpark building. Gonna be looking forward to where this shifts to for our favourite Hokkien prawn mee.

USA Beef Pair With Heart Attack Fried Rice As a saying goes, it takes 2 hands to clap and this phrase definitely tell the whole relationship of these pair. Thick slices of US beef was roasted to medium and paired it with New Ubin signature heart attack fried rice. A mouth of slightly chewy beef meat and another mouthful of nice fragance rice added another dimension to the taste. Though, i must say, the fried rice is a tad too oily because of the beef lad.

Quinoa Falafel Growing up my dad loved bring the family to upscale restaurants for special occasions, now an adult it is natural we do the same on Father’s Day. The selected place for the night got everyone’s approval which made me satisfied. To share we had the wagyu cote de boeuf and this was a meat feast fit for a king or was it Dad? Medium cut with enough tendon, fat and red protein. The French bean side was slightly too tough with an old skin, but thankfully we ordered the beetroot tartare which was a nice interlude to the 1.1kg star of the night. For my main I had the quinoa falafel which was a great take on the usual fried chickpea & beans “meatballs”. I also adored the bed of hummus together with cabbage and pomegranate. Artemis is now on my “go to places for occasions” list.

Roasted Salmon Located at the heart of the CBD on level 40 of Capitagreen Building, you can get a panoramic view of the Singapore skyline while enjoying the wonderful Mediterranean inspired food. One of the standouts was the perfectly roasted salmon atop a bed of couscous, eggplant and tomato relish ($36). The salmon was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy skin. I also liked the combination of flavours of the turmeric, saffron and tomato that go really well with the couscous.

Mee Rebus with Chicken From Rahim Muslim Food Really worth the queue. Definitely will return for this plate of mee rebus with soft tender chicken. Classic mee rebus, with added satay sauce that elevates the enjoyment. Highly recommended!

Ayam Soto From Rahim Muslim Food Really satisfying portion of ayam soto. Added the signature begedil. Highly recommended!

Mee Soto Rahim Muslim Food@Chong Boon Market It looks plentiful and appetising. #JonApproves Mee soto($4.50) - 9.5/10 Bergedil is soft and crumbly, flavorful too. Taste of potato is sooooooo good. Soup flavor of chicken is stronk, can tell that they boiled for a long time to achieve this perfection. Chickenis tender. Noodles also absorbed the chicken broth flavor too. Even beansprouts give additional crunch to the dish.

Supper time of our lives One of my favourite late night supper place to go do. Everytime come here must have their herbal pork mee sua. The pork meats were all tender, and soup was very flavourful. A must have when u visit Seng Kee. Another must have dish here, is their chaota bee hoon, blanchan with lime goes so well with the bee hoon. All the seafood are hidden under the blanket of chaota bee hoon. The prawn paste Chicken also not bad, crispy skin was shiok. Seng kee is a great option for any late night supper.

Black ginseng chicken soup Been awhile since my last visit but this traditional black chicken soup is still as hearty and nourishing as ever

Hearty Hawker Favourites Chaota Beehoon ($10.80) - full of flavour and delightfully crispy at the edges, this was a great with the accompanying chilli. Though my dad preferred JB Ah Meng's version. White Mee Sue ($6.80) - chock full of fish slices, minced pork, and even small shrimps, we couldn't stop slurping up this bowl of goodness. Highly recommended! Qing Long Chye ($13.80) - it was alright, slightly more expensive than our usual order of Kang Kong or sweet potato leaves. Prawn Cracker ($13.80) - crispy and filled with minced prawn, dip it in the accompanying mayo for a good bite to whet your appetite. Can get slightly heavy towards the end though, so best to share this with 4 pax.

Homely Peranakan Recent cravings for Peranakan food led me to this slightly hidden stall at Golden Mile Food Centre, and boy was this a good find. Blunt but friendly aunty serving customers and even helping to clear their plates. The Ayam Rendang ($8) came in a sharing portion of chicken and potatoes in a superb aromatic and slightly spicy gravy; and the best part is that the chicken pieces are boneless! The Chapchai ($5) was also really good and in a sizeable portion. Two plates of rice completed the meal for an additional $0.50 a plate. Don't forget to ask for their (very potent) chilli too! Overall, fantastic and homely peranakan fare at a very affordable price. Would definitely return and also wholeheartedly recommend anyone to come by too!

Bakwan Kepiting@$10 Affordable Peranakan Food Alert! Peranakan Food have a reputation of being rather expensive. But not here at Charlie's Located at Basement Floor of Golden Mile Hawker, Charlie's looks rather old school, with a hand written menu/signboard. The lady owner was very nice and friendly. What we had 1) Bakwan Kepiting- damn good. Absolutely love this pork/crab meat balls. 2) Ayam Rendang- Chicken was fresh. The Rendang gravy was thick and flavourful. 3) Chap Chye- Normal dish, nothing really sepcial They have many items on their menu, next time will try their Ayam Buah Keluak

CANNOLI Had expectations for the cannoli siciliani ($18) as I always wanted to try what does the original taste like but eh… the dough was really cakey and hard 🙁

SQUID INK CRAB PASTA Wasn’t impressed with the pastas for the price point of $35 for crab meat squid ink linguine and $32 for linguine with clams 🤔 at half price, it’s more like original price of what it should be priced at normally 😅

BURRATA Burrata Caprese ($28) is a must get💯 with half off it’s the most value for money 💰 with the quality slices of Parma ham and cherry tomatoes 🍅🥰

Dry Laksa While still a definitive staple for me, I have actually managed to recreate this dish. And so can you! All one needs is conviction, self-belief and 2 packets of Prima laksa paste. Slightly pricey for what it is. Props for fat juicy prawns, but again, believe in yourself! (Retrospective; 2019)

Beef Rendang There is really no need to wax lyrical about the beef rendang at Violet Oon’s. It is categorically the best rendang in Singapore. While heavy is the head that wears the crown, VO has never once wavered in its quality in the countless times i have had this dish. (Retrospective; 2019)

Duck Confit (Part of the brunch menu) Duck confit, crispy and juicy, on top of a velvety smooth pomme purée (aka mash potatoes). The delightful crisp skin, crackles at every bite, while the duck meat isn't dried out.

Slow Cooked Egg (Part of the brunch menu) Let's talk about their eggs. Slowed cooked eggs, with aerated truffle, pancetta and toasted brioche toast. This warm, mousse-like mush is not exactly my family's favourite. A mimic of Singapore's soft boiled egg, mildly savoury from the pancetta and heighten by the truffle. But dipping those toast (wished I had more), makes the dish pleasant and delicious to eat. The toast soaked up the brioche toast, giving the soggy-crunchy texture.

Sticky Toffee Pudding (Part of the Brunch menu) Sticky toffee pudding, with bourbon vanilla ice cream. Dark, balanced and incredible. The bourbon ice cream, slightly bitter and rich, paired well with the sweet toffee pudding.
