Sakura Ebi Sohmen $18 Slicked in scampi oil, these al-dente noodles were practically soaking in umami, and that cascade of deep-fried sakura ebi over the side was a glorious sight to behold. Taste: 3.5/5

A4 Wagyu Beef Short Rib Yakiniku $30 Enjoyable but nothing out of the ordinary, the rather common tasting beef was helped along somewhat by the boisterous kimchi. Not something I’d order again. Taste: 3/5

Pistachio tiramisu 16++ Non alcoholic, it's a good enough rendition but very expensive although portion is somewhat big. Better to share

Etna pizza 28++ Prosciutto, cheese sauce, pistachio powder probably? The cheese sauce was good. The crunchy crust was strong, but it's at the expense of having too much bite. The dough was overall alright Prosciutto was ok, overall it's a pretty decent pizza even if slightly unusual

Focaccia (complimentary) Very avg, and cold

Traditional churros w/ choc sauce ($14) Sadly much more expensive than what you'd get in Spain - churros are larger & thicker, and you get richer and more chocolate sauce, for prob just SGD7.50 there. I did like that the churros here were crispy though, although the chocolate was decent but nothing amazing. NGL overall pretty pricey but it's a really nice place to visit for occasions (both vibes & service were good), and to try Fideua, which is difficult/ rarer to find in Singapore!

🌟 Braised short ribs, smoked cauliflower puree & braised cauliflower ($34) Oh the short ribs were tender, and pretty amazing when paired with the smoked cauliflower puree! Cauliflower also had a little smokey flavour, although a little soft for me.

Green asparagus & fried Brussel sprouts, Potato mashed ($31) Asparagus were quite nice with a slight smokey flavour. Brussel sprouts also had a good charred flavour, and texture was really to my liking. Mash was actually kinda interesting (?) with quite a thick consistency.

Uni Pasta Read about this place on a food review blog so decided to give it a try. Used the entertainer 1 for 1 so it was about 25 bucks for 2 pastas. I was not impressed at all, the uni did not really shine, so it seemed like a sweetened cream pasta with a weird after taste. Maybe I am biased or old school but covering the pasta with sauce and blow torching it is a tad pretentious as well. The balance of the flavours could be worked better, for example with less sauce in the pasta, incorporating the sauce as opposed to slathering it over (the pasta inside had no sauce), and balancing the sweetness with the cream more salty elements.

Pork Ribs This dish is definitely value for money. Taste excellent and is tender. The 2 pasta dish that was tried was just average thou.

Beautiful Dessert And Delectable Italian Food Returning to this place for the 1000th times, that is how good their food are. Recently, they have announced their closing down, and I decided to bring my family to once again try their wide array of dishes (we nearly ordered their whole menu 😂) So what stood out particularly are as follows: 1) Appetizers i) Baked eggplants—Nothing particularly stood out but it was a homely sort of comfort food ii) Baccala cake with sea urchin (Must-try)— Just loved how the cakes go so well when dipped in the thick, flavorful sea urchin paste 2) Mains i) Duck Confit—A little too dry for my taste...but still worth a shot ii) Sea urchin carbonara—-There’s something so alluring about their sea urchin sauce iii) Kale Ravioli— Ravioli not too chewy, has the right consistency. Bursting with umami. iv) Wagyu beef cheeks (Must-try)— Wagyu just melts in your mouth. Paired with mash potato, the flavor is elevated. But on its on, Wagyu is good enough! 3) Desserts i) Molten Lava cake paired with vanilla Gelato — The lusciousness of the molten chocolate cake paired with a refreshing gelato elevated this dessert so much! Chocolate cake’s outer layer has just the right tinge of crispness too! ii) Mango cheesecake— Love how the different layers of the cheesecake come together, very harmonious flavor profile iii) Tiramisu—something a cut above the rest of the tiramisu, accentuates a very homely feel

Down 2 Get Dirty Unfortunately good things come to an end, but at least we ended it on a sweet note at @sugarhallsg. They have two cocktails that could be considered to be dessert-like, especially the Dirty Chocolatini. All cocktails are $26++ which is about the market average price for a cocktail, but these concoctions are far from average.⠀⠀ ⠀ The Dirty Chocolatini is a concoction built on a base of Monkey Shoulder Whisky, Merlet Amerisse, a bitter blackcurrant aperitif, chocolate, white cocoa, raspberry and lime. I already knew that chocolate & whisky were quite a good pairing, but I didn’t realise just how good it could be. The Dirty Chocolatini tastes & feels like a melted down chocolate gelato, and then the Merlet Amerisse & raspberry pop in to turn this cocktail into a crazily chocolatey black forest cake. The amalgamation of fantastic flavours conceal the whisky well, and it’s definitely a dangerous dessert cocktail. Especially when you’re already a few cocktails deep.⠀ ⠀ The Souffle Espresso Martini is less of a dessert cocktail and more in line with the post meal espresso. Santa Teresa Rum and Mr Black Coffee Liqueur are complemented by the addition of cold brew coffee & macadamia, right before the espresso elixir gets topped with dalgona foam. The sweetness and smoothness of the rum & coffee liqueur neutralise the acidity of the cold brew coffee and make it even smoother. However, I couldn’t really pick out any extra nuttiness from the macadamia, but the simultaneous alcohol & caffeine punch was more than enough to satisfy. Mixing booze & espresso might leave you with the Forrest Whittaker, but it will definitely give you enough of a jolt to stumble out of Sugarhall.⠀ ⠀ Thank you so much for the invite, @sugarhallsg!

High Baller Shot Caller While the Peach Smash & the Passionfruit Daiquiri from @sugarhallsg were equally exceptional, we finally have a winner that just managed to edge it over the previous duo. Honestly we may have done the second cocktail a disservice though, as it is still a charming cocktail, it just had the misfortune of getting ordered alongside the winner.⠀ ⠀ The Melon Rum Sour (all single serve cocktails are $26++) reminded me of the melon ramune drink, thanks to the honeydew & Charentais melon which is a type of cantaloupe. Besides the sweet melons, Havana Club 3 year old rum, absinthe, lemon & thyme are mixed into this fruit forward cocktail, and the booze hits pretty hard here thanks to the absinthe. However, the melon flavours in the Melon Rum Sour did taste a little artificial, especially on the aftertaste.⠀ ⠀ And now for the what was arguably the winning cocktail of the night, the brilliant Banana Highball. The use of discarded Banana Peel Rum was a 300 IQ move by Sugarhall’s mixologists, and the pleasant banana flavours held up robustly against the Amontillado sherry, green apple & black walnut bitters. At first sniff, it smells like delicious banana bread, and then notes of caramel start to arise. The flavour, on the other hand, was nearly purely caramel. It strongly reminded me of a Werther’s Original caramel sweet with the velvety caramel notes, with just a hint of banana at the end of every sip. Incredibly delicious, and the Banana Highball has us going bananas.⠀ ⠀ Thank you so much for the invite, @sugarhallsg!

Lord Knows I’d Smash We started off fairly well at @sugarhallsg with the noteworthy opening cocktails, but the next pair were a couple of levels above. The Passionfruit Daiquiri and the Peach Smash (both $26++) were fabulously fruity & flavourful cocktails that concealed a potent punch. I’d call it a dead tie between both, as I absolutely adore the uniquely delicious quirks of each.⠀ ⠀ The Passionfruit Daiquiri is a mix of 4 year old Bacardi rum, green tea, passionfruit and lime, and garnished with a gummy bear couple. Despite the rum being the sole spirit here, the daiquiri is still pretty powerful, although the green tea quells most of the alcoholic burn from the young rum. The sweetness of the passionfruit juice is kept in check by the spritz of lime, and is then evenly mixed into the green tea & rum concoction. The daiquiri is smooth, sweet and somehow tremendously thirst quenching, and the urge to just chug it all down is nigh unbearable. As for the little gummy bear couple that I eventually ate…I’m sorry, little ones.⠀ ⠀ The Peach Smash was a truly smashing cocktail and is another single spirit drink, comprised of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, peach, rhubarb & lemon. This isn’t quite as quaff-able as the Daiquiri, but it’s definitely a stellar sipper. The velvety rich sweetness of the bourbon composes most of the drink’s weighty body, and it adds a delightful oak & smoke aroma to the cocktail. The peach is ripe & sweet, but kept in check by the sourness of the lemon & rhubarb. I can’t place my finger on why, but I am fairly certain that I tasted pear in there.⠀ ⠀ Sugarhall’s cocktails are all sublime, but when it comes to the Passionfruit Daiquiri & the Peach Smash, I’d be like the Hulk and passionately smash, smash, suh-MASH! Prawn Paste Chicken 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 ($7): While the strips of chicken breast were moderately juicy, we thought they were over-fried as some parts of the skin were charred. The prawn paste wasn't very distinct as well.

Buffet $23.80 Been visiting Aroy Mak Mookata at least once a year since their old location at Macpherson Road, but now they have moved to Jalan Besar, opposite Sim Lim Tower, near Rochor MRT. The mookata buffet used to be split between normal and premium pricing, but now it is only one price at $23.80 nett, introduced a few months back, with no GST or service charge. If you top up $5, you get free flow fountain drinks such as authentic Thai Milk Tea, Thai Green Milk Tea, Lemongrass, and more. With this pricing, you get seafood, marinated meat, vegetables, processed food, and free flow sauces and condiments, plus one free ice cream. Seafood selection includes flower crab, clams, sotong, dory fish, mussels, and oysters. There used to be more options like crayfish and scallops, but still a steal considering the price. Freshness was good, especially for prawns and clams, while the rest were decent. There was a wide range of marinated meats including chicken, beef, and pork. Marination was mild, would be better with stronger flavour, but at least the cuts were bite sized. I recommend sticking to non‑marinated or sesame flavour, and also getting the smoked duck. Dip into their sauce and enjoy. Soup base was too plain. Even after cooking all the food, it stayed plain. It is good that soup starts neutral, but after cooking, the juices should enrich it. This was a disappointment, and I hope they improve the taste of the soup base. They offered various dipping sauces, including different types of Thai chili sauce, belachan chilli, garlic, chilli padi, and even mayo and nacho cheese sauce, to enhance the flavour. Overall, in terms of taste and quality, I felt it fell short compared to the past. In terms of pricing, it was still worth it. Eat mookata, enjoy air‑con, and free flow drinks. I do miss their braised meat rice, which they served for a period. Sambal Kangkong 6nett? Idk the price but q affordable. This is one of the most unique versions I've tasted. The sambal was quite sweet and sticky, with occasional punches of savouriness and smokiness coming through. Somehow there's a slimy(in the best way haha) transparent gravy covering everything and the flavours were satisfying but still agreeable. Only complain was the portion, it's basically for 1 pax lmao. Worth a try!
