We got the dark chocolate, pistachio, mango and passion fruit, and the Ishapan (lychee, rose and raspberry). Opening the box to this beautiful sight made us drool already. I’ve (Chiyin) been lucky to have tasted eclairs whilst I was in France, and I still can’t forget the experience (yes, they were that good). These eclairs were almost as amazing (just smaller) as the ones I had back then! The cream wasn’t too heavy on the palate or overly cloying. The dark chocolate was just the right balance of bitter and sweet, while the chocolate streusels on the top really helped to enhance the overall taste - perhaps that’s why it was a favourite among everyone who tried it! If you prefer a fresh, sour-sweet taste, you’d enjoy the mango and passion fruit eclair. The combination of lychee, rose and raspberry really hit the spot but I felt that it could be a littttle less sweet. For all pistachio fans, the pistachio eclair will not disappoint. :)

We were craving some good Salmon Ikura Don after we had some in Osaka, and we chanced upon Umi Nami! As you can see, there were generous portions of Ikura and Salmon pieces, and every bite was accompanied with a burst of flavour (literally). It was really very worth it with Burpple Beyond and we would totally recommend getting 2 of this if you guys are really craving some good and affordable Salmon Ikura Don. It might be a little pricey without Burpple Beyond as it comes at $25 per bowl! The other Chiraishi Dons they have there looked very good too and we will definitely be back to try them! 😋

Let’s just say I’m (Chiyin) a sucker for anything sweet potato and taro. Kennedy likes taro too, so when we saw the poster with the pictures of Hey Long Cha’s newest concoction, we were thrilled. Sweet potato AND taro? TAKE OUR MONEY. The staff was really helpful and told us that we could swap the fresh milk for their milk tea instead. We did that (opted for 30% sugar because Chiyin prefers her bbt not-so-sweet) and found a new favourite. 50% sugar might be better because their 30% was pretty diluted as compared to other BBT brands. Thankfully, the sweet potato paste was a great complement and was sweet enough to add more taste to the milk tea. We chose the sweet potato paste instead of yam paste because it’s something we haven’t seen elsewhere! The taro pearls were really QQ too! Highly recommend trying this drink if you love sweet potatoes or yam.

We read previous reviews and were really looking forward to their truffle pasta but it wasn’t on the menu anymore. With only 4 pasta options, we selected the pescatore and laksa pasta to try. The pescatore was mediocre; the sauce wasn’t as flavorful as we expected it to be and the pasta was not al dante. However, the prawns were really juicy and fresh. The laksa pasta was the saving grace because the sauce was really fragrant and flavorful. Each strand of pasta was generously coated with the sauce and the tiger prawns were really sweet! We wiped the plate clean. However, we agreed that even with burpple 1 for 1, the two pasta dishes were not worth $30 (GST included).

We had the set meal which included miso soup, salad and most importantly the mentaiko tamago 😋. We had Mentaiyaki Tamago Kaisen Don (above) and the Mentaiyaki Kaisen Don (below). The regular size Don was small but suprisingly filling. They were very generous with the ingredients (which were fresh) and it provided a very balanced food experience 😄 would 100% recommend this! The waitress who served us was very friendly too.
