For 1-for-1 $19.90 Set Meal for 2 Perfect for dinner after work is this burger joint in Serangoon Gardens. The Burgatory ($16) features a spicy grilled beef patty smothered in their signature chilli queso sauce, topped with jalapenos and melted aged cheddar. The Bushtucker ($15) is a hearty alternative with crispy bacon, melted swiss cheese, beets and a garlic aioli sauce. The set meal includes a side of salad, soup, fried snacks such as onion rings or fries, a drink and a scoop of ice cream — talk about bang for your buck! Photo by Burppler Elizabeth Lim

The Bushtucker While the lightly limp rocket and purple wholemeal bun looks slightly alarming, this was my favourite burger! It’s more of a classic type of burger, with a beef chuck patty, bacon, Swiss cheese, rocket, garlic aioli and a hidden slice of beetroot at the bottom of the burger which matches the buns. While I don’t normally enjoy beetroot, it worked well in this burger and gave it more moisture without tasting too earthy. The flavours in this burger weren’t as in your face, so you can actually properly taste the beef, so this was quite enjoyable. Overall, I wouldn’t pay for the burger at its full price at Fat Boy’s because there are definitely better places at that price point, but it’s quite worth it with the 1 for 1 on burpple beyond. Do note this outlet is quite understaffed though, so the food takes quite a while to come. It’s newly renovated though it seems, so it’s quite nice and bright compared to before!

Monster Mash The Monster Mash is indeed quite a monster. It’s a fried breaded chicken cutlet topped with aged cheddar, bacon and a wasabi mash, and coated in bechamel sauce, with a very beautiful brown honey oat bun. Sadly the burger itself wasn’t as impressive as it looked. The chicken was quite heavily breaded and the meat wasn’t really seasoned at all. I liked the mash potatoes because of the different textures of potatoes though. The bun was kind of a let down though. While it looked beautiful, it was overly toasted so it was kinda hard, and with the fried (and a slightly dry) chicken cutlet, it was kind of hard to stomach. Glad that we changed our fries to sweet potato fries with a top up of $2.50 though! Although they were slightly softer than the regular fries, I personally enjoy their sweeter taste.

Truffle Mac & Cheese — $17 Strong truffle taste and the Mac & Cheese had a good balance of truffle oil and cheesiness, not too over the top. Would definitely come back for this one!

Crossing Cafe December is a month of joy & giving. I have recently visited @crossingscafe with a few foodies, and personally what has impressed me was the cozy environment & friendly staff. Although it was raining on a Sunday afternoon, what I could felt was the love and passion from the food prepared and served. Crossings Cafe is a social enterprise which creates employment opportunities for the disadvantaged such as collaborating with students and graduates from Assumption Pathway School to intern or work at the cafe. The cafe serves yummy comfort food at affordable prices and the profits go to charity. Personally, I have enjoyed the Franciscan Burger ($19), the hand moulded beef patty is succulent, it is made from Friar John-Paul Tan OFM’s secret receipe and the burger is topped with lettuce, sliced tomatoes and smoked cheddar cheese. The signature black pepper chilli crab fettucine is also an interesting dish that one should try when visiting the cafe. The spicy level is just nice for me and the mixture of black pepper and chilli crab is an interesting combination! Do check out the cafe and enjoy a meal with your loved ones! Thank you @crossingscafe for the invitation and the warm hosting!

Classic Beef Bolognese A childhood favorite, this dish was served warm with generous helpings of minced beef. Very flavorful and comforting meal! The cafe is a social enterprise that hires special needs employees, all whom are professional and friendly. A tip to note is to be patient and order slowly 🙂

Value For Money Steamboat ($29.80) Onepot offers a wide variety of soups and ingredients at affordable prices. You can get up to 3 soups per table and we got laksa, mala and chicken soup. The chicken was a bit plain for our liking but the laksa and mala were flavourful and yummy.

Mala Hotpot buffet for $20?? Yes, with #burpplebeyond it's possible. Although it's not the best, it's not too bad either considering the spread available (scallops, bamboo clams, mutton slices, etc). You're able to satisfy your mala cravings definitely. Do note that your clothes will smell of mala oil after the meal, so just go really casual if you want to!

Good Variety The sauces are pretty standard, & are right by the entrance. Next to that are the ice cream freezer & free flow sugary drinks station - these cost $2 extra (total), which I didn't opt for & I felt I wasn't missing out on much. For meat, I basically whacked the beef & mutton as I usually do. They weren't too fatty, which is great! The other options are pork & chicken. The main section where the rest of the ingredients are saw a large variety seafood (the bamboo clams were a bit smelly though), mushrooms, vegetables, my favourite tang hoon & thick sweet potato noodles, & I must have cracked 4 eggs into the soup nearing the end of my meal 😂 Overall, in terms of variety & quality of food, I was quite happy with what was offered. Give the Xiao Long Baos a miss, though - despite being included in the buffet price, they aren't actually nice. Not much soup inside, & the skin is way too thick. The top is also very stiff & hard (that's what she said). 💷 Cash/NETS only 🖥 Accepts reservations - I used Eatigo for 50% off, clicked through via Shopback for cashback 🍽 Burpple Beyond partner 📱 Accepts GrabPay

Stout Glazed Bacon French Toast 2 slices of french toast with cream cheese filling topped with stout glazed bacon and maple syrup on the side. The portion is generous. The bacon is nicely cooked (crispy yet not the super dry crispy bacon that I hate) with a balsamic vinegar taste-like glaze. It goes well with the fluffy french toast, however the taste of the cream cheese is very subtle and I wish there is more of it. The dish does get boring once you finished the bacon and are only left with bread. It is not a bad dish but it definitely sounds more decadent and more promising than it tasted. Their coffee as usual is good. Flat white is strong, bold and not acidic.

Tolido’s Espresso Nook. Located at Blk 462, Crawford Lane, unit 01-63, Singapore 190462. . . . Truffle Scrambled Eggs, $17. Hidden gem 💎 within the neighbourhood, just around the corner where the Michelin Star Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle. Usually swarmed with long q during weekends, thus we decided to try them out during the weekday lunch:) . . Super huge portion for only $17, it’s so huge that 1 person is not able to finish it.. 3pcs of huge chunky Brioche beautifully toasted to perfection, we enjoys them together with the salted butter spread. Those soft and creamy scrambled eggs cooked with truffle oil and tomatoes bites were FABULOUS!! It’s so fragrant with truffle taste and it’s not too oily for our liking too! One of the better truffle scrambled egg we had so far! The truffle ratio is just perfect and not too gelak. Diced potatoes and fresh salad on the sides were so delicious for pairing too! Gona add this to our brunch places list😍 . . . @tolidosnook #hungryunicornsg #tolidosnook #trufflescrambledeggs #brunchcafe #toastedbrioche #tolidosnooksg #scrambledeggs
