Had been hearing quite a fair bit about A Slow Cup’s new space at The Cathay of the late — those whom have been following us for quite a while might have had heard of A Slow Cup when we had made our visit to their previous location a while ago. Previously situated within Painted Nail Bar at Robertson Walk, Painted Nail Bar has moved out of its premises there due to the redevelopment of the building — Painted Nail Bar has found new digs within the refreshed The Cathay at level 6 where the mall links out to Mount Sophia, with A Slow Cup making its move together with Painted Nail Bar as well. Considering how the space that Painted Nail Bar had taken is more of an aisle-side space, there is no longer a partition would exist between both Painted Nail Bar and A Slow Cup — the two establishments now co-exists in the same space as each other. Their entire shop is decked with wooden accented furniture and fittings throughout both Painted Nail Bar and A Slow Cup for a cohesive look; the seatings for A Slow Cup comprises of counter seats surrounding the espresso bar as well as stools that surround around a planter box with tiered surfaces that doubles up as a table for the coffee cups. A Slow Cup is a cafe that emphasis heavily on their espresso-based specialty coffee line-up; this includes sections which are dedicated to Little Sips, Regular Mood, Large Over Ice, Sweet Sips and Slow Sips — going how they are currently in their soft launch phase, there are only a limited variety of two (2) cookies which are they are offering at A Slow Cup.

Between the two cookies that A Slow Cup has to offer, the Banana Miso Macadamia Cookie stood out to us a little bit more. A Slow Cup doesn’t describe the elements that goes into their bakes, though the Banana Miso Macadamia Cookie can be described as a soft cookie and is observed to come with specks of macadamia nuts and banana over the top. We aren’t folks whom are usually into cookies but the Banana Miso Macadamia Cookie is actually quite a hit for our tastebuds. Considering how the Banana Miso Macadamia Cookie did came a little thinner than most soft cookies out there, we did find that the Banana Miso Macadamia Cookie was actually loosely packed though still held firm without feeling particularly clumpy that would have caused it to become a little difficult to swallow — sufficiently moist as well. There is a slight sweet-savoury note in the cookie batter, while the combination of sweetness and nuttiness from the use of banana and macadamia can be said to be rather reminiscent of banana nut crunch type of cereals; a very comforting flavour that reminds us of our childhoods. The Slow Einspanner is probably named as such to incorporate the namesake of the establishment into the name of the dish itself. The Slow Einspanner does come in the same format as other Einspanner out there; featuring a sweetened cream layer atop a latte that seems to have been sweetened with caramel as well. This was quite the comforting cuppa; the latte coming nutty and earthy whilst also with a medium body — all whilst being suitably sweet that makes it almost like a dessert-y cuppa to end off a meal with. Always felt that A Slow Cup is an establishment that somewhat complements that of Painted Nail Bar’s operations — one where Painted Nail Bar’s patrons can get a cuppa whilst getting their nails done, while also creating a cosy space that allows for intimate catch-ups or those looking to enjoy a cuppa whilst getting work done / to read a book. The bakes that A Slow Cup currently offers do seem pretty fuss-free, whilst their espresso-based specialty coffee are also well-executed. With a location that is much more accessible than that of their previous Robertson Walk location, A Slow Cup does make for a spot for a simple, fuss-free hangout situated in the heart of town.
