1) Caramel & Crackling Roast Pork Donburi [$9.80]
Think 叉烧烧肉饭. The visual allure of caramelized pork & a made-to-order sharpened knife-slicing illusion sets up a slight disappointment that the pork is not as moist & tender as it's cracked up to be.
Not sure if the bowl required achar, in the presence of a sour & slightly spicy dollop of dried sambal. Add $1 for an onsen egg, which had ran out by then.

There are plenty of cheap charsiew stalls in Singapore's hawker culture doing it right. After tasting Char, no other joint should ever overcharge for pork.

Come Here: Never.

At its price range I would say that this was actually decent quality. Caramel Pork would be somewhat similar to charsiew, while the Crackling Roast Pork is pretty much siobak. Unlike the usual where the meat would be succulent and tender, they have retained a bite for both variants so you get a bit of meatiness. Of the two, the Caramel Pork seemed to feel a tad dry; perhaps being left on the display and getting a bit too exposed. Roast Pork had a good crackling skin, and a smoked meat flavour which is delicious. There is some dried sambal at the side which helps to give in the spicy kick if you are one who can't do without heat, and do not forget to add the egg for a dollar extra if you are can't do without egg porn; the sous vide egg is guaranteed to satisfy when poked!

Had generous thick cuts of both flooding my donburi, I can't almost see my rice.

I like both kind, but the crackling one seems to stand out more with it really crunchy crackle and melt in your mouth tender meat! The caramelised one had a good fat - meat ratio and wasn't too tough for ah ma liu 👵

From the people who brought to you Don's Pies, Bazuka Yakibuta serves up "explosive grilled pork" as expressed in its brand name. I saw a post on this donburi and I wanted to try it since they have an outlet at One@Kent Ridge which is in the proximity of school. I had the combination Donburi which included both Crackling and Caramalised Roast Pork ($9.80), plus I added an onsen egg ($1) to bathe my rice bowl with some egg yolk sauce ^^

Unfortunately the taste of this did not meet my expectations at all. Perhaps it was a little late into afternoon so the roast pork and charsiew was served cold, so was the onsen egg but that didn't matter as much. I think the saving grace might have been the dried chili which contained a bit of hebe and shallots. Honestly, it tasted like an upmarket hawker store, but I wouldn't even say that cause some hawkers serve better pork. The sauce was also too salty even though it was drizzled in small amounts over the rice. Sadly, I wouldn't come back anymore :( if I was in the area and was craving for charsiew rice, I think I would visit the Kopitiam upstairs to get my fix.

Heartiness (portion): 3/5
Tastiness (product): 2/5
Worthiness (price): 2/5

Had this at One@Kent Ridge, can't find the right location tag. Anyway, this $9.80 bowl of crackling pork and caramelised roasted pork (char siew) was pretty good. They go by weight I think - so I had the choice of either more crackling or caramelised pork. The moment I heard the crunch when he was slicing the crackling pork I had high expectations (and prepared myself for the disappointment cos' my journey home was 1.5h - prolly would be soggy but surprisingly it was still a little crispy) & it wasn't salty at all, with a great portion of meat and fat. The char siew was a little fatttttt but yum! Added $1 for onsen egg. Japanese rice with light simple soy sauce. Also comes with dried Chilli (tastes like haebeehiam). Pretty satisfying!!

Yum!! Crackling was really crackling yet meat was juicy and tender. #foodporn #burpple #foodaffair #instafood #cracklingpork #onsenegg
