Picnic Café is fast becoming one of my preferred new dining establishments, due to all the diligence and passion that goes into the food. Pretty much everything is prepped and made in house by Chris, the chef and owner of Picnic Café, and her team, from the humble flatbread (the dough is made in house), to the soups, and to their Bailey's tiramisu which I am itching to try.
Case in point is this palatable plate of pumpkin and carrot soup ($4.90). Pleasantly sweet, creamy and slightly savory with a little spiffing up from the dash of truffle oil drizzled on top, this is a comfort classic at its best. Sure, the soup could've been served hotter, but I found myself spooning up every last droplet of the stellar soup. It's unpretentious yet ridiculously delicious, and it's almost like how mum used to make it.
The reason why it's so easy to forgive the slight lack of heat from this palatable plate of pumpkin soup is that when chilled, it effortlessly transforms into a greatly gratifying gazpacho.
Given a bit of time and a a little improvement upon some dishes, Picnic Café could easily become a true gem in Singapore's saturated F&B industry.
P.S. Geotag still doesn't seem to be up. Picnic Café is located within The Midtown, right in front of the bus stop.
