Saw the lady next to me having a bowl of oden and I couldn't decide whether to try it or order my usual buta shogayaki don. After mulling over it for a while, I knew hands down that if I didn't order that oden, I would regret it for the rest of the night 😂 And so I ordered it! This was my first time having oden in Singapore and the second time having oden in my life. Man, it was so delicious and comforting. There's a lot of umami and earthy, bean-like flavour to it. Essentially, it tastes very home-made and not commercialised and as though it's been cooked for many, many hours. I did feel (in a good way) that the oden was very traditional and extremely close to the real deal yet it catered to S'porean tastebuds (i.e. by being more flavourful and savoury and not so strange as to be an acquired taste). Inside this bowl there were a few different varieties of beancurd (that came in different textures and softness), daikon, and also, konnyaku. To sum it all up, there's really nothing quite like a heavenly bowl of oden to warm up the soul! 😌
