A should-be rainy weather staple, hearty hotpot dinners are the perfect comfort food. And so, my first visit to Tong Xin Ru Yi Traditional Hotpot was a blast - partly because of the weather but mainly due to the food. With an extensive menu, they are known for their lovely repertoire of slow-cooked soup bases. Hence, sticking to the classics, we got their signature Golden Chicken Soup ($20) and Tomato Soup ($16).

Not thirst-inducing at all, the thick, bright yellow broth was lip-smackingly good. The nourishing blend pairing the savouriness of the chicken and the tantalizing sweetness of the golden pumpkin together harmoniously. Very tasty and really a must-try. What’s more, there was a quarter of a chicken in the pot - great value! Another vibrant number, the tomato soup also held a lot of flavour and featured a well-rounded tanginess. The thinly sliced pickled radish and sweet corn found in the base delivering that extra oomph.

As for their meats, we got their meaty Angus Beef ($22) and thin Spanish Pork ($18). Both were more than decent cuts. Oh and keep a lookout for running promotions as while we were there, a minimum order of $80 and above gets to receive a free portion of either Japanese black pork OR U.S. premium beef.
