Noticed this new dim sum stall named 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum in the BGAIN130 Eating House at Jurong Gateway Road whilst going around Jurong East, and made a mental note to head down and try them out. We are guessing that the stall is probably related to Fantastic Dim Sum, which is also affiliated with Happy Congee — from the stall’s facade to the menu items and the wares used, there are quite a lot of similar traits that one can find between 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum, Fantastic Dim Sum and Happy Congee. Serving up various steamed and fried dim sum, congee and rice noodle rolls (i.e. Chee Cheong Fun), the signature items at 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum includes the Amazing Siew Mai (a tasting platter of three Siew Mai that includes their Chicken Siew Mai, Signature Otah Siew Mai and Truffle Siew Mai — similar to the Fantastic Siew Mai at Fantastic Dim Sum though with a smaller variety), Lava Custard Bun, Durian Box and Amazing Rice Noodle Roll.

Having written about Happy Congee’s rice noodle rolls previously when we visited their now-defunct Hougang outlet as well as Fantastic Dim Sum’s Fantastic Siew Mai, the spotlight would be on their Lava Custard Bun instead — itself being one of the few signature items on the menu at 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum. These buns look pretty neat, and comes in three pieces for an order. Sinking our teeth into the Lava Custard Bun, we note that the bun was fluffy, though we do personally feel that it was on the edge of being a little too thick for our preferences. That being said, the Lava Custard Bun is still a crowd pleaser on its own — that salted egg yolk custard within comes satisfyingly molten; itself being a good balance of sweet and savoury where it veers slightly towards savoury from the salted egg. Probably not the best that we have came across, but a very decent version of the favourite dim sum especially for a stall located in a coffeeshop.

It seems that the folks behind Happy Congee and Fantastic Dim Sum are on an aggressive expansion phase again — this time with stalls that bears nearly identical names that carries menus that are specially curated for the stall. Despite serving a limited dim sum menu as compared to Fantastic Dim Sum, 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum does seem to serve up the very best of what Fantastic Dim Sum and Happy Congee serves up on their menus; that being said, we do note that items such as the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings barely hit the mark for how over-steamed they are — basically all of the dumplings were sticking onto each other, and picking them out of the basket equated to ripping the skin apart since they were also stuck to the paper lined on the basket. Still, 三苑点心 · Amazing Dim Sum is still an interesting option for folks residing in Jurong East for some pocket-friendly dim sum served in a coffeeshop to consider dining at.
