I didn’t expect to like the Bak Kut Teh here as much as I did.
Located in the new Paya Lebar Quarter, this outlet of Old Street Bak Kut Teh has a welcoming look about it with the warm lighting and a cosy rustic design. The key thing that sealed my decision to have lunch here with my parents though was they offer free-flow condiments. I don’t know about you but I won’t bother to eat BKT if there is no raw garlic and chilli padi.
Anyway, much to my pleasant surprise, I found myself enjoying the soup here very much. Theirs is the pale-looking, peppery style, but it was rich and concentrated to the point of being opaque. My order of premium loin ribs satisfied me to no end. The meat was very tender and sweet. Gnawed those long bones clean I did.
Besides the “tau pok” which was far too oily, everything else we had turned out to really good. We will not hesitate to return when a craving for Bak Kut Teh hits.
