Came here for a birthday meal because it was recommended by my mum ☺️ Out of all the different types of Chinese cuisine, Shanghainese cuisine is one of my favs!
First of all the decor of this place is super lovely, simple and classy. We could tell that the owners put a lot of thought into the kind of plates/bowls/cutlery used because they were all so intricately beautiful. 🤩 I’m totally a sucker for nice cutlery hahaha.
The 上海熏鱼 (Shanghai Smoked Fish) was delicious! Crispy on the outside and the fish meat is tender. The sauce is just the right kind of sweet. Really liked the 芥菜肉丝炒年糕 (Stir-Fried Rice Cakes with Vegetables and Pork) too. I’m usually not a huge fan of rice cakes but the ones here are goooood. Enjoyed the 开洋葱油炒面 (Stir-Fried Noodles with Scallion Oil too) and 糖醋排骨 (Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs) too!
The only thing that was a miss for me was the 生煎包, which is apparently not on the menu but can be done upon request? So we requested for a plate of it and it came but it was mala flavoured (which we weren’t aware of). I have nothing against mala but it didn’t go as well with the baos, would’ve preferred to try the original ones but oh well! Still a great meal overall 😌
