I hardly ever attempt the impossible, that is to find seats in Takashimaya’s basement food court during meal times. When a miracle happened and I did, the stall I decided to order from was “Thai’d Me Up” as it was closest to my table.
Drawn by the laminated newspaper clippings festooning their glass wall, I zeroed in on their signature Braised Pork Noodles. It was pretty good on the whole.
The slices of pork were tender and tasty from the sauce used to braise it. I liked that the toppings also included half of a runny-yolked egg, blanched “chye sim”, two very large, crunchy fried wantons as well as some pork lard.
They use a very thin kind of egg noodles which are cooked firm and springy before being tossed in a dark sauce. As theirs is a Thai-style dish, no sambal is added during the cooking process. However to fulfill my request for my noodles to be spicy, the young hawker took the initiative to throw on chopped chilli padi. Thumbs up to that.
