Punggol is already a location pretty far out for some, but the area that Sugartown is located within Punggol at Waterway Sunray is probably one that some will even deem as “ulu” — the ice-cream parlour is situated a walk away from the nearest LRT Station — Kandaloor, and the nearest bus stop is located a distance away from the HDB block it is at. The minimalistic ice-cream parlour oversees the lush greenery and waterway (slightly), and serves up ice-cream with waffles or in cups, and does serve up some basic variations of Affogato alongside coffee and hot/iced shaken tea amongst other beverages.

To be fair, I wasn’t really looking to visit Sugartown but I was pretty drawn by two of the flavours that I decided to pay them a visit — one being the Mascarpone Basil which I skipped on eventually (since I only had stomach space for a single scoop), and the Italian White Truffle; I went for the latter. Was actually expecting some rather strong aroma from truffle oil for this flavour but was pleasantly surprised by how gritty this ice-cream flavour was; the earthy and nutty notes of the truffle also being pretty evident amidst the aptly sweet and milky base, making it a little intriguing but still easy to finish. The Lime Mint Iced Shaken Tea was also a great thirst quencher to have after a walk down the PCN that leads up to Sugartown; unsweetened, it carries light zippy notes from the lime, while the mint gives a refreshing, cooling sensation that makes it so satisfying.

The rather secluded location of Sugartown does make it a little hard to find, especially for those who are not quite familiar with the area — but otherwise I would reckon that this does work as a quiet spot for quality catch-ups with friends given the serene setting and clean interiors of the space; not to mention how they do carry some unique and adventurous ice-cream flavours (though most of them are still on the safer side) and well-executed iced teas to go along!
