It was our first time seeing the chocolate Kouign Amann on display at Tiong Bahru Bakery and we had to give it a try! The texture of the pastry is very similar to that of the cafe's famous Kouign Amann, being crispy and to some extent, a little tough as well.

However, the inside of this pastry is very different as it was full of chocolate and it did not taste as buttery as the normal version. We think the cafe used dark chocolate as the chocolate filling was slightly bitter, which is actually a good thing on hindsight as the pastry might have been too cloying. Nonetheless, we prefer the usual Kouign Amann as we miss the buttery overload! Note that the Chocolate version is priced slightly higher at $6++, although it is still significantly cheaper than most of the other savoury croissants at TBB!
