Had been pretty much following Ms Durian since their days at The Poiz Centre — back then being just a small kiosk with a small dine-in area situated at the corner of the mall. Fast forward to today, they have since occupied a building at 11 Kelantan Road all by their own. While the renovation has taken quite a while now, the outdoor dining area is still currently in the works, though they have since opened their doors for dine-in at this current juncture. Apart from having a larger kitchen to cater for hot food as well as the durian desserts and pastries that they are known for, the premises also include their very own coffee roastery as well. Patrons can still enjoy the same durian desserts that they were previously serving at The Poiz Centre here, though the Mao Shan Wang Durian High Tea ($45/pax) would be the highlight, which is newly-introduced with their move to Kelantan Road. The items in the Mao Shan Wang Durian High Tea are split into two categories, and features the following:
The Savories:
- Crab Salad with Ikura & Lemon Sauce
- Baked Salmon with housemade sauce
- Fried Brie with Berry Compote
The Mao Shan Wang Desserts:
- Baked Durian Tart
- Baby Durian Craquelins
- Durian Macarons
- Durian Cheese Mousse
Each set is also entitled to a complimentary non-alcoholic drink (choice of specialty coffee or tea, which also includes their house special Lemongrass Pandan Tea). Amongst the items in the Mao Shan Wang Desserts category, the desserts are arranged in a tiered platter according to their flavour intensity — the Baby Durian Craquelins being the lightest, while the Durian Cheese Mousse being claimed to be the strongest. No doubt all of the desserts did impress my folks whom are both durian lovers; it was pretty unanimous that our favourite were the Durian Macarons — the macarons do come aptly sweet with and well-executed with the “feet” at the base, whilst sandwiching a layer of fibrous Mao Shan Wang mousse for that pungent kick that was oh-so-good.
Having tried their cakes out while they were at The Poiz Centre, we had always been looking forward to the new creations that they have to offer — high quality durian desserts that carries quite the punch that would capture the hearts of any durian lover. Am pretty much happy to say how the quality has remained pretty consistent with the move to Kelantan Lane, and how it seems that a lot of emphasis are still being put in the craft. They have also mentioned that they are serving up a Durian Cocktail here, which includes rum and seems rather interesting; probably something to give a go next time that I am here. Here’s wishing Ms Durian all the best in the renovations (it has been quite a while since they started), and also to whatever that is to come!
