There hasn’t been much at Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre that has gotten our attention over the years — that being said, we had recently chanced upon the opening of a relatively new stall named Kickstart Pancake which seemed to be quite a recent entry into the hawker centre. While the namesake of the stall suggests that they serve up local-style pancakes (i.e. Min Jiang Kueh), it is interesting to note that Kickstart Pancake does serve up quite a diversified selection of items as compared to the likes of similar stalls serving up Min Jiang Kueh that specialises only in their pancakes — apart from their pancakes, the menu here does comprise of a sole congee offering, as well as a range of cheese / egg tarts, curry puffs and other traditional Chinese pastries too.

The range of pancake flavours that are available at Kickstart Pancake are pretty much the usual few that one would typically find at establishments such as the likes of Munchi Pancakes / Ottie Pancakes — whilst offering only a single variation of pancake skin here, the fillings found here are the usual Oreo Chocolate, Red Bean, Peanut, Hazelnut etc. that one can find at the other brands mentioned. We found ourselves opting for the Black Sesame Pancake — the usual which we would go for when trying a brand for the very first time. We were given a corner piece of the Black Sesame Pancake for our order; the Min Jiang Kueh at Kickstart Pancake does come a little bit on the thicker side akin to those that are popularised by Munchi Pancakes. With that being said, we note that the pancake itself was soft and fluffy — not overly dense but still substantially sized nonetheless. The edges of the pancake does come with crispy ends that still carries a crunch without being soft and limp having been displayed for some time in the display case. Meanwhile, the black sesame filling does come with the familiar gritty texture without being too dry; also carries a roasty fragrance with a slightly saltish amidst the earthy flavours of black sesame itself.
