👴Teochew Ah Hiar👨
Both served in the fried option. The “Peach” Kueh gets its name from its heart shaped 💜, otherwise known as “Png Kueh” 飯粿 because of the glutinous rice filings. Served steamed or lightly pan fried. The other item is a pan fried carrot cake, drizzle on the black sweet sauce and chilli, the feeling of nostalgia strikes back!
Really surprising to find such an authentic Teochew Ngoh Hiang hawker with a wide variety of selection. The ingredients are fresh, temperature just right in frying up the Ngoh hiang; and the sauces authentic: can’t get enough of the pink sweet sauce and chilli sauce with grinder peanut. So exciting!
Brings out the “Teochew-ness” in me whenever I have this comfort bowl of teochew dumpling soup with mee pok. Priced at $4 with dumpling and a dollar less without, this is certainly the most value for money bowl of comfortness you find in authentic old school Singaporean hawker fare in the CBD. As early as 830am, the stall whips up probably the most savoury bowl of goodness filled with minced pork, sliced pork, mushroom, fishball, sliced fish cake and teochew dumpling. Their Mee Pok comes al dente even without specific instructions from a fussy Mee Pok customer like me. Find them at the interim hawker centre right outside Telok Ayer MRT.
The way the Teochews like it, breakfast, lunch or supper! See if you can see what's missing...
This is clearly the winner side dish and it's my first time try this or seeing this dish offered at a bak kut teh stall! The bean paste 豆豉 sauce is fully infused into the melt-in-your mouth soft slices of bitter gourd. There is not a trace of bitterness, but a resounding sweetness that lingers well in the palate.
Pepperish, umami pig's stomach soup with preserved vegetable and pork belly... Authentic Teochew style.
