Rise & Shine
Made with real crab claw meat, the trio of handmade crabcakes were chockful of well-seasoned and moist crab meat, and were sat on a bed of greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and pomegranate seeds tossed in a refreshingly zingy dressing. The boiled egg and garlicky sourdough bread add heft to the dish and ensure you won't leave hungry.

The Wholesome Breakfast lives up to its name, with cage-free scrambled eggs deftly cooked to a silky smooth consistency, sautƩed mushrooms, smoked salmon and a moreish Moroccan-spiced tomato relish. The sourdough is softer than we prefer, but doesn't detract from our enjoyment one bit.

Creamy pumpkin that's still chunky in places is liberally applied to a slice of sourdough before being garnished with lashes of EVOO, crumbled feta, pomegranate and @allthingsdelicioussg housemade za'atar - a wonderfully herbal, earthy and tangy spice blend that adds punch to the mild sweetness of the pumpkin. I've nothing but praise for the boiled eggs here, which are wobbly and have incredibly soft, lush yolks.

Blink and youāll miss it on both fronts, Earth Shop & Cafe is a laidback lifestyle store on Joo Chiat Road selling local and regional produce and goods. In the back is a tiny cafe which spills out into a quaint alley whose walls are decorated with vibrant graffiti as well as a hole-in-the-wall coffee bar as their next door neighbour.
-
Their vegetarian-centric menu is small but focused and showcases locally sourced ingredients, such as these kampung eggs with bright orange yolks nestled in a bubbling hot tomato and chickpea stew.

I prefer my sourdough crustier and for $6, they could have been more generous with the
housemade raspberry jam and cashew butter. Frankly speaking, this isnāt anything you couldnāt make better at home in 5 minutes.

Most of the dishes youāll find at this very hidden and quaint cafe tucked in the back of a Joo Chiat shophouse are lightly seasoned and eat clean. Their Farmerās Breakfast comes with
scrambled eggs, king oyster mushrooms with pesto, avocado slices, a side salad with tangy dressing and hash browns(which were slightly greasy). If youāre not a big eater, this is the perfect size and price.

This is nasi lemak that can go head to head with its brethren from well-known hawkers. Light, fluffy rice perfumed with a delicate yet robust coconut fragrance and a sambal thatās sweet and fiery are the stars here, but the deep-fried chicken drumettes and sprinkling of spiced batter are good too.

The breakfast spread at Andaz is small but focused, with something to please everyone. I also like that they give you a choice between Western and Asian cuisines.
Eggs Benedict is invariably my litmus test on how well an establishment does its breakfast. Fortunately for me, Ally On 25's is poached to wobbly perfection and coated in a light but buttery hollandaise sauce. A godsend is the honey baked pork ham, something that's increasingly hard to find at restaurants in Singapore.

Stuff your face without the guilt ā the Big Veggie Breakfast features wholesome and tasty nosh, such as free-range Barossa eggs, mushrooms, baby spinach, vine-ripened tomatoes, avocado, haloumi cheese and the surprise show-stealer - a very moreish, smoky take on baked beans.

Common Man is anything but for the common man at these eye-watering prices, but damn, do they do brunch well.
If youāre feeling famished, you canāt go wrong with their full breakfast ā featuring a heaving plate laden with two free-range organic eggs(done any style), bacon, pork sausage, herbed roma tomato, hash brown, portobello mushrooms, and house-made baked chorizo beans. Special mention has to go to the full-flavoured buckwheat ketchup, which is much less cloyingly sweet than commercial versions. If I found anything lacking, it would be the absence of an additional slice of toast to accompany the plethora of ingredients.

A straight forward yet undeniably enticing combo of two light and airy pancakes accompanied by strips of crispy bacon, a fried egg, maple syrup and yummy seasoned creamy butter definitely satisfied my breakfast cravings without leaving me feeling overfully full.

Thereās something to be said about attention to detail applied to seemingly simple food. The carefully folded slices of ham, sauteed mushrooms nestling in their undulating valleys, the striking red of the cherry tomatoes, and golden swathe of creamy scrambled eggs made for a most visually pleasing sight that immediately stirred the appetite. And because of this, even though this was nothing out of the ordinary taste-wise(albeit well-cooked), I still thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
