They do a mean scrambled egg here, rippled through with meandering swirls, well-seasoned, and most importantly light and creamy in texture. The sourdough bread is of good quality, and the charred mushroom sauced with basil walnut pesto had bags of flavour.

Barely a few months old and new Joo Chiat bakery Petit Pain is already packed to the rafters on weekend mornings. Pro-tip – visit during lunch hour when the crowd has dissipated and also when they start making these delightfully cheesy focaccias chockful of caramelised onion and shitake mushroom slices.

You might balk at the price tag(I certainly did), but if you fancy your coffeeshop breakfast in a nice café environment along with great coffee, then look no further than Homeground’s excellent rendition of kaya toast and eggs.

The kaya is lush and creamy, redolent with pandan, and excellent spread on the crunchy, airy toast, that's best eaten dunked into the bowl of perfectly sous vide eggs for that winning combination of sweet, salty and savoury.

Brawn & Brains’ signature fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon rashers and red cheddar sandwiched between handmade brioche buns is the power breakfast of champions, although I found myself wishing for the bread to be less dense and the eggs to be more well-seasoned.

Prices are steep for what you can essentially cook at home to the same standard, but it's worth the (very) occasional treat of a mound of fluffy, creamy scrambled eggs dusted with finely grated Parmesan. The side salad of baby spinach with a subtle dressing is surprisingly good too. No regrets adding on the sides of meaty pork bacon rashers($4.8) and the most beautifully fanned out slices of avocado($4.5) I've seen this side of Guillemard either. They also happen to make the best coffee(imo) in the neighbourhood.

Pendulous poached egg on a avocado-smothered sliced of toast is my power breakfast of choice. The only thing I can fault is the price, which given the tiny portion, should be at least a few dollars cheaper. Then again, it's a P.S. Cafe in the middle of the city.

I could eat eggs anytime of the day, but breakfast is when I savour them most. La Brasserie's Eggs Benedict sees two plump poached eggs coated in hollandaise atop toasty English muffins draped with your choice of ham or smoked salmon. Faultless and so satisfying.

Breakfast at Fullerton Bay Hotel is a luxurious experience amidst plush, sun-lit surroundings and an indulgent spread of local, Western, and even gluten-free options. Take your pick from the buffet, or order extravagant a la carte dishes such as the Egg Surprise Special. Braised Wagyu beef cheeks for breakfast anyone? Melt-in-your-mouth hunks of fall-apart meat surround a wobbly sous vide egg begging to be burst in a bath of truffle infused meat jus. This is almost too rich for my first meal of the day, but I'll throw caution to the wind for anything that delectable.

Given a choice, I always go for the breakfast option. Two Men Bagel’s Egg Boca might not be the most impressive looking thing on the menu, but it is comfort food at it’s best – egg salad, bacon jam, scallions, mayo and fresh greens make for a soul soothing moreish mouthful.

At twice the quality and cheaper than most other "big breakfast" plates at cafes of similar ilk, the GastrosmSmiths Breakfast Plate comes laden with a swathe of silken scrambled eggs of perfect consistency, bacon, wok-sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomato, a high-quality Nürnberger sausage, toast and blackcurrant maple compote. What a mouthful, literally and figuratively. Available on their weekend brunch menu from 11:30am - 3:30pm.

I don’t order this out often because I plan to eventually buy a house, but this was the waiter’s recommendation and I like to live dangerously sometimes. The avocado was immaculately sliced and nicely flavoured with the bright flavours of lime and chilli flakes. As for the eggs, they were soft, wobbly and custardy in the centre. Crumbled feta and sweet tomatoes on the vine rounded out the dish. Beautiful, simple breakfast food that went well with my pint of White Rabbit Ale.

Really smooth and strong coffee with a luxuriously frothy finish. It’s got a not inconsiderable sugar hit too which makes it tastes vaguely like kopi o in a good way. I’d come back just for this.
