Local Snacks For The Itchy Mouth
The slab of butter that didn't need to be there. š° when I chose taro creme, I was thinking of smooth thick orh ni rather than literally taro flavoured cream. š A case of misunderstood menu. I loved the ambience, the price and the fact they used whole wheat bread. But the yuan yang didn't quite cut it as well. š You know how yuan yang has a certain identity of being coffee w a tinge or tea taste / tea w a tinge of coffee taste. But theirs was more like half half until no distinct taste. Maybe I'm being too critical. But I mighttttt just come back for black sesame toast to give it another try. I do hope that black sesame is just grounded black sesame paste?
For handmade kuehs with interesting fillings! Skin is thin and even, just thin enough to wrap the fillings to allow them to explode in your mouth š¤¤ Although beetroot and red carrot sounds like interesting fillings, I still prefer the traditional crunchy bang kuang(turnip)! #burpplejalanbesar
I never liked fish cake. As a kid, I would remove all of it and dump onto someone's plate. Never liked the QQ texture of fish cake that is evident of starches, enzymes and flour. #occupationalhazard But the fish cakes here are different! There is a bite and springiness that you get from real meat. The combination w the chilli was also amazing!
Small minute baos that you can pop into your mouth in one bite! The lotus paste ones are really fragrant! The char siew and big Bao was really tasty šš Although the size of their big baos are equivalent to other people's normal Bao š #burpple
One of the simplest local dish ard. Steamed rice cakes w chai por and some chilli. Somehow some people get it right and some people get it wrong. I love how the chai por isn't overly oily! It goes v well w the soft melt in your mouth rice cakes!
What's your favourite side dish to order at the hawker centre? My family almost always gets Guo tie whenever we see it. Maybe it's the meat and the pan fried skin that makes it so satisfying as a complement to our meal. We used to come to beauty world pretty often for our dinners because we always buy our uniforms from here. Glad for the long weekends for us to revisit old haunts again. #sg50 #hawkerpedia
A blanket of golden peanuts atop the Rojak ingredients. This is my dad's to-order item whenever we are at the HDB hub's food court. It is also his comfort food when everyone at home is too busy to have dinner w him. But of course I'm having this w him today š Tell them to put less sugar when you order and it would be perfect. Crispy fried dough, crunchy kang kong, towgay, pineapple, turnip, cucumbers in a tasty fish paste sauce and a blanket of golden peanuts. #hawkerpedia
My attempt at taking a more close up shot of the sticky rice. Don't think I was very successful but I couldn't wait to devour it.
My sinful breakfast this morning. I love this Ham Chin Peng! It's not just any ham chin peng, it's sticky rice ham chin peng! The exterior is slightly crisp and the inside is chewy, while the sticky rice is slight sweet & sticky. My dad buys it at 3 for $2, eat 2 himself and gives me 1 š
Do you like it sweet or salty? I love the sweet one. In my opinion, the best tau sar piah in singapore. Buttery, flaky, crispy pastry w sweet bean paste filling. This is so close to my house but I only eat it once in a while >
What's your favourite tau huay combi? Love the smooth, silky tau huay from whampoa beancurd store topped with kidney beans!
Who can resist egg tarts? One of my favouritest egg tarts in singapore with its crispy crust and smooth, slightly liquid egg filling. š
