Ahhh Eggs Benny. The reigning trending food in Singapore before the truffle fries revolution came and went. So how does this stack up? Well it certainly was different from all the generic Eggs Benny back home that consists of separate ingredients that happen to share the same location through happenstance. The sauce was cheesy and tangy at the same time with none of the gelat feeling. And it works. Alright so maybe there was no egg porn with perfectly poached eggs but I would give that up anytime for this dish that combines everything perfectly.
Michael Bublé warbles across on the vinyl in the cool dark interior as the staff prepares the food at a glacial pace. Just across the causeway, table for two feels much more laid back than any Singaporean cafe. The food when arrived, does not disappoint. The fish and chips were moist and crisply battered, yielding fresh and succulent flakes with every bite. The accompanying sides of fries and store bought nachos (we think it's chachos) didn't exactly impress but hey we can live with it. But still the best part of the meal was the chill ambience that brought a welcome respite from the hot and hectic life outside.
Forget sophistication, this just tastes like good ole home cooked food done well. The wedges are simply cut, fried potatoes, the cutlet still has bits of bone, most probably left over when they were deboning the fillet by hand. The heart is well and alive in the food and it left us smiling with satisfaction.
