Back here again after my too-sweet fixture, this time with a taste for the savoury! Grilled salmon teriyaki ($16) was an unexpected gem; the honey teriyaki sauce was definitely a taster - perfect blend of sweet and savoury. Salmon was fresh and delivered just the right amount of crisp, definitely worth a try!

The innovative folks at TBB have cooked up 4 new savory crossiants, taking inspiration from dishes we all love today such as molten egg ramen, xiao long bao etc. Available daily from 1130am-3pm at all TBB outlets.
More details on jacqsowhat.com (link in bio) and not forgetting their Kouign Amann, keep me coming back for more. 😛 #TiongBahruBakery

Known for its dark, hipster interior and good food, Symmetry commands a queue on weekends, making reservations a must. Start off with the Crispy Baby Squid ($14) or the Truffle Fries ($15), a crowd favourite with its heady truffle aroma in a seemingly bottomless bucket. Go for the Truffle Eggs Mushroom ($22) — scrambled eggs drizzled with truffle oil, sauteed mushrooms, a slice of toast and hashbrown — or the Big Breakfast ($24) for its insanely good blueberry butter. Finally, finish off by sharing their epic waffles ($16), it is a beautiful mess of bananas, strawberries, peanut butter, hazelnut chocolate, maple syrup and vanilla ice cream. The coffee here is excellent, sure to please all you coffee fiends; they use the Slayer!

Singaporean's Guide To Ulu Café Hopping

Price Range: $27-$32

Nearest MRT: Somerset/Clarke Quay

Instagrammability: Moderate -
Arresting door entrance & decent interior design.

Food:
1) Brioche French Toast [$18.00++]
No doubt, one of Singapore's better French Toasts. The bread is pillowy soft, the berry compote/vanilla bean/cinnamon toppings classic.
Herein lies my problem with CMCR: Costs of café fare are often already multiples of daily sustenance; yet CMCR manages to rack up multiples of other cafés' bills.
The pricetag of $21.20 makes the plate of two slices of amazing bread and a dollop of ice-cream & berries a little hard to swallow.

2) Organic Eggs Benedict [$24.00++]
Two expertly-handled eggs sitting atop gamey oxtail & tough sourdough, while surrounded by a distressing amount of rocket.
Again, decent but pricey.

3) Flat White [$5.00++]
Visually average.
"Got the roasted taste." (Jes, 2015)

4) Iced Chocolate [$7.50++]
As with many other joints, dilute.

Besides being quite inaccessible from MRT stations, Common Man's pricey stated prices resemble those which've already included all prevailing taxes. We couldn't even afford to fill up the screen, lol.

Come Here: Maybe?

Travelled all the way to the east to give this newly open cafe. Their cafe are designed cater to the petrol station theme. Menu ranging from Full Tank, Fuel ME up to REFUEL pancake. We had the recommended stack of pancake serve with scrambled eggs with Bratwurst Sausage at $9.90 nett. On a side note, what are the must try cafe in the east? Please let me know! 😂

There are many great cafes, but not all spaces are conducive for spending a couple of hours with your friends over simple food, great coffee and lovely ambience. At this humble spot, you're always ensured a consistently good cup, alongside great bites like their Thai Milk Tea Loaf or a Butter Croissant. For the more serious coffee drinkers, you even get to specify a brewing method of choice for their single origin beans. This spacious cafe is already a popular meeting spot for many Easties, and it certainly looks like there will be a steady growth of visits from Westies too! Another draw is also their free Wifi and ample seating, good omens for those who love working from cafes.

Brunch in this brick-walled space is always a lovely affair, from the ambience to the well-executed food. Favourites include the Flan ($23), pork cheek confit with sauteed mushrooms, a perfectly poached egg, and a mountain of rocket sitting in a light pastry shell. The truffle fries are so delightful, it's worth popping by anytime you're in the neighborhood! Finish off with their decadent waffles. Photo by Jennifer Yeo

While located on a busy road, Assembly Coffee manages to remain a lovely little nook full of natural light and good vibes. You'll feel instantly transported in this cosy hideout, complete with good coffee from Liberty beans. Treat yourself to a fluffy Salted Caramel Waffle while reading your favourite book. Expect to queue on the weekends at this alluring establishment, and be prepared for a great meal. For something different, go for the Turkish Full Breakfast. If you like your runny eggs (of course you do), go for the poached organic eggs sitting atop braised ox cheeks, or the swoon-worthy Croque Monsieur. Finish off with a coffee, cider, or glass of white wine. Don't expect the usual cafe prices! Photo by Huixuan Tan
